Art, for the love of it!

Since I was very young, art has been an important part of my life. Without it, I don't know what I would do or who I would be. Although I love working with all sorts of materials, I have attempted to incorporate the things in my life that give me joy into my art. The result is the fired clay items that you see in our shop.

I love the history of old cemeteries. Thinking of the people who have come before us, the skill and craftsmanship of the person who created these hand carved one of a kind gravestones, the love of the person who commissioned the headstone, all these things I thought about as I explored these places. It made me so sad to see these stones damaged through time, nature or even worse, vandalism. To think that very soon this piece of wonderful art could be lost forever! So we put our heads together. How could we, in some small way, save and preserve these images so that they could continue on? We didn't want to harm a headstone or leave materials sticking to it so after much thought we were able to find a way to create a master impression that was completely non damaging and respectful to the gravestone, cemetery and the gravesite! Now, due to the gift of a kiln to our studio, we can share with those who love these tombstones a unique piece of art for their home, patio or garden.

More than a few customers requested information on who the stone belonged to and where it was located so now I offer some historical information with my items when I can. Sometimes I can provide information on nothing, as to that the original piece has been part of my own collection for years, sometimes I can share many facts such as military service, family history and in the case of the stone belonging to Charles Barnes I found information leading to the cause of his early death. I now wish I had more interest in the history of the people whose stones I visited and admired all those years because I was really more interested in the art of the stone rather than the names. It is true that one stone can have many, many stories to share!

Thank you all for your interest and for visiting our shop! May all of you have available to you the things that you love and enjoy to make your lives richer!

I love all art! I have no real one type of craft that I love the best and stick to exclusively. I find that I love to move from project to project and my choice of materials can vary, depending on what I am interested in at that particular moment.
