Why wood?

When I look at a piece of wood, I see potential for something new to grow from it. In my mind that makes wood the ultimate symbol of love. Beauty and strength through growth.

I made my first ring out a piece of cedar that I found on the estate of William Faulkner. It was just a little nub of wood that had broken off a log cut down decades prior. I liked holding it and I realized that the more I held it, the less I wanted to put it down. That realization became the metaphor for the best relationships in my life. The more I’m with a special person, the less I want to be without them.

Since then I’ve made hundreds of rings for customers from all around the world. Each ring connected to a customer's individual story and growing in meaning every day that it’s worn. I love the craftsmanship of making Grown Rings, but if there's one reason I love my business, it's the opportunity to be with a customer at the beginning of an exciting, new chapter in their life. It's like I get to say, "Once upon a time...' and the customer fills in the rest day by day.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

All listings can be customized and personalized. Mix and match any wood species with any style of ring. Or dream up something entirely new. Several of my favorite rings are collaborations with customers.

Sizing details

All ring sizes are in US standard. The best method to determine your ring size is to visit a local jeweler. They will size your finger for free. Ring size kits are also available from

Care instructions

Grown Rings are waterproof. Wash as needed with non abrasive hand soap and water. Polish with Grown Rings - Clean & Polish spray provided with each order or any plastics safe polisher. (If it's safe for plastics, it's safe for the protective clear coat on your ring.) Do not use metal jewelry polish, cleansers or abrasive compounds.

Where does your wood come from?

Grown rings are made from reclaimed and sustainable wood sources from all over the world. Historical restorations, artisans, carpenters and manufacturers all produce off cuts or expended wood products. Grown rings rescues wood and gives it new life. Sources include: Hardwood Long Bows from Arkansas (Osage), Major League Baseball game used bats (hickory), antique stairs from a 1920s hotel in Los Angeles (Douglas Fir) and Jack Daniel's Whiskey Barrel from Tennessee (White Oak).

New sources are always welcome. If you have an idea for a source or access to wood that you';d like made into a ring, please contact me anytime.

Can you use my wood?

Yes. Absolutely. The Grown Rings process is suitable for hard and soft woods. If you have a sentimental tree or wooden product, I can make it into a custom ring in any of the styles in my store.

Are your rings waterproof

Yes. Grown Rings are sealed with multiple coats of a clear protectant that penetrate, strengthens and waterproofs. Your ring is safe to wear while washing your hands or taking a shower. Avoid abrasive hand soaps like Lava or body scrubs as they may scratch your ring.

Can your rings be resized?

Yes, on a case by case basis. Grown Rings can be resized one full size up or down from their original size. (example a size 6 ring could be sized up to a 7 or down to a 5). If you order a size 8 ring and later decide that a size 8.5 would fit more comfortably, I'll resize your ring free of charge and only ask that you cover shipping.

How long do wood rings last?

Not all wood rings are the same. Carved, laminate and bentwood rings are strong in some directions and weak in others.

Grown rings are meticulously engineered to last a lifetime. They have a crushing strength greater than precious metal rings of equivalent weight and are as scratch resistant as similarly mirror finished rings. Wood furniture, houses and ships can last a hundred years or longer and with the appropriate care so can your ring.

How long does it take to make a ring

It takes one to two weeks to make a ring.
