Naturally Dyed Yarns

Hi, my name is Ginny, and my husband Jonny and I have eight children. We live on the edge of the forest on a homestead in Virginia. Jonny and I both love to create using natural materials. He's a carpenter whose favorite toy is his sawmill, and I'm a knitter and a natural dyer of yarn and silk.
I currently work with only American sourced wool and alpaca yarns. All are minimally processed and from farms I feel good about supporting. Knitting is one of my favorite activities, and I love feeling good about the fiber that I knit with.
I use natural dyes that I purchase from reputable suppliers and I gather many of my dye materials by hand (sometimes with the help of many small hands). Natural dyes produce beautiful colors and I never tire of pulling skeins from my dyepots.
With a few exceptions, I always dye in batches of at least two skeins, and I encourage you to buy all you would need for your project at once because I cannot exactly reproduce any of these skeins. These are seasonal yarns: the flowers and berries that I used to dye them with are only available for a window of time. Available colors naturally change with the seasons.
Plant dyes can be very colorfast, some more so than others. The best way to preserve your yarns and the objects you create with them is to store them away from direct sunlight, and when washing, always use a gentle pH neutral wool wash.
Thank you for your interest in our shop!
