Announcement   Welcome! I have been making pottery since I was a child. For the last 30 years or so, I have made my living making my line of ceramic lamps which were sold nationally. About four years ago I sold the lamp business to House of Troy, another Vermont company. Now, as time permits, I make pottery on the wheel again to sell here in my Etsy shop and at my studio in Underhill Vermont. My work is reduction fired to cone 10 and above in my kerosene fired kiln. Over the years, I have developed my own clay mixtures and nontoxic glazes. I am working to restock my etsy shop within the next few months. If you ever happen to come by my studio in Vermont you may be interested to know that I have many seconds and things in stock that are too difficult to ship. My etsy inventory is separate from what is on display in my showroom.

I am so pleased! This arrived promptly, was safely packed and is absolutely gorgeous. It is already up on the mantel with a new plant living in and loving her new home. Thank you so very much for your beautiful craftsmanship and attention to quality.

Another beautiful bowl, with a mesmerizing glaze that evokes swirling sand on a beach! And a perfect size for my summer pasta salads! Shipped quickly & excellently packed. Thanks once again, George!

About

Fifty years and counting

I am an old potter who's professional career began in Vermont in the early 1960's. Over the years since, I have run the University of Vermont's ceramics program, set up a pottery in California, came back to set up my present pottery near Underhill Vermont. In the late 1970's I started a ceramic lamp business which I recently sold to another lamp company.

Now I am an individual studio potter again throwing pots on a wheel and firing them in my large home made car kiln.

I am afraid I am a throwback to an earlier time. I mix and prepare my clay completely by hand with no machinery and no additives. I make my own glazes from recipes I have developed myself over the years. The kiln is now fired with kerosene to cone 10 and over.

My clay mixtures are made from clays and minerals from all over the U.S. I have made a device to test thermal expansion properties of the finished product so I can guarantee oven proof ware for baking. In addition I am able to control the working properties of my clay so it will hold the shapes I am striving to create better than commercially prepared clays. This allows the light well thrown bowls I am known for.

Thank you for visiting! I came to Vermont in 1960 to start my pottery business. In those days, I sold to stores in New York and Boston. Over the last 50 years, I have made just about anything that can be made out of clay. For me, this Etsy shop is a way to return to my roots and throw pots on the wheel one by one just as I please. I select what I think are my best pieces to photograph and add to my shop. Everything is ovenproof, dishwasher and microwave safe. I never use toxic materials in the clay or glaze. My ware is true high fire stoneware and porcelain which makes it very rugged. My kerosene fired kiln helps me achieve colors and textures that are hard to duplicate by any other method. Each piece shown is exactly the one that will be shipped. None of these items are produced in quantity.Your satisfaction is absolutely guarenteed. If you are not happy, send it back, and I will refund what you paid including the shipping charge. In some cases, packing and shipping is included in the price you see.
