About

"Swords into Ploughshares"

I am a Penmaker with over 45 years of woodworking experience who also happens to be a former Marine.

Knowing that I have made Pens out of some of the most unlikely materials, an old Marine buddy asked me if I could make a Pen out of a .50 caliber Machine Gun Bullet. !

( it so happened that my son, serving in Iraq at the time, had sent me some .50 caliber cartridges he had fired as a souvenir.)

So, I looked upon this project as my version of turning "Swords into Ploughshares".

When this Pen turned out to be a success, word spread quickly amongst friends and acquaintances who asked me to make pens out of all kinds of cartridges, both Military and Hunting types.

Eventually I decided to open my small shop on etsy and offer these Pens for sale.

The Main Difference between my Bullet Pens and many others, is that I use only real, once fired Cartridges for my Pens.

No brass replicas are used.

Depending on the availability of used casings, I can make a Pen out of just about any cartridge.
If you don't see what you are looking for, please let me know and I'll be glad to make a pen out of your favourite caliber.

Sincerely,

Gunny

Welcome to the "Gunny's" Bullet Pen Shop.!!

As a former Marine and Penmaker for over 40+ years, I decided to combine the two and make handcrafted bullet Pens in my shop here in Upstate New York.

( Prior to venturing into etsy, the vast majority of my sales were made by Private "In-Home" appointments)

Think of it as my idea of turning "Swords into Ploughshares"

What makes my bullet pens unique, is the fact that I only use REAL Military and Hunting Cartridges in making my pens.

THERE ARE NO FANCIED UP BRASS REPLICAS USED IN MY SHOP !!

Most of the time, the markings from the rifle can be easily seen.

Whenever possible I also use the original bullets which are machined to fit the refill tips for the genuine appearance of the piece.
Metal jacketed bullets are used, so that no lead is exposed.

I do NOT lacquer my brass as is common with replicas. This allows the pen to acquire the real patina which brass develops over time.
( You can keep them shiny by polishing with good old brasso once a year, if you must! )

For the finishing materials I use handcast Acrylics or rare woods which are handpolished to a silky shine.

Only the best pen operating mechanisms by Cross and Parker are used to provide the top quality pens.
This ensures not only longevity, but also guarantees that refills are available at all better stationery and office supply stores.

I very much enjoy making these unique pens and hope that you will enjoy them as well.
