Announcement    In effort to live each moon to the fullest I have reduced production + minimized resource consumption in my creative process + purposed my focus to a "less is more" slow cloth quality. Making similar adjustments in my lifestyle with a recent downsize and relocation of my 30 years on the half street to a small quaint living/studio location on Main. Yes I will solidly continue to use upcycled materials and an eco friendly creative process. Yes, I will still offer limited eco-refashion collections with my two favorite stockist however, my new home for direct from artist sales is here on Etsy.

To my wonderful beloved tribe and to those I am looking forward to getting acquainted with, my name is Teresa and you are in my studio Half Street on Main Etsy market. Collectively my body of work exhibits an organic, poetic, artisan made fashion style. Individually, each design reflects a unique combination of materials, construction and natural pigment outcome. My direct approach to eco-refashioning combines two skill sets, first upcycled clothing construction and second printing on natural fibers with leaves. To create a refashion garment I source, piece and stitch together re/deployable post consumer clothing. Then, I gather, layer and bundle immersion process locally gathered wind fallen leaves to print abstract motifs over a refashion garment surface. One of my favorite inspiration hangouts is Wendy Bryant's CreoleSha Ask Wendy online forum for Up-cycled Clothing and Business "Escape the noise of the daily grind and find joy in what you create!" ~Wendy. Another of my favorites is India Flint's online The School of Nomad Arts, a place for "... sharing botanical alchemy and ecologically sustainable textile practices, aleatory poetry and rebel stitching.."~India

EXTENDING THE ENJOYMENT OF YOUR ECO-REFASHION:
I construct eco-refashions to last more than one life. An occasional modest re-mending and or a seasonal print re-fresh adds character. I offer a custom Mending service listing here(add link here) and a Print Refresh service listing here(add link here). Print refresh outcomes are serendipitous and often begin darker than the original birth. As such I cannot guarantee custom requests in refresh outcomes suggesting the overall appearance will be more muted and the printed motif more abstract. Note, with extended enjoyment each life will gradually fade to beautiful opaque under layers from each past life.

WASHING SUGGESTIONS:
For garments printed with leaves, the first 2-3 WASHINGS are very important and done with as much care as possible. While I have taken extra steps to fix the prints, some of the natural pigment may still wash off during the first 1-2 washings. It is unlikely that any residual natural pigment will stain another garment however it is advisable that you wash your garment by itself during the first 2 washings.
*****************************************************************
Over exposure to direct sunlight and harsh detergents
will shift natural pigments.
Do not use bleach or enzyme detergents or dry clean.
It is suggested to use artisan soap , mild shampoo or soap nuts
****************************************************************
I suggest the Artisan Soap Mini Pouch In the Sink Washing Method:
~each purchase includes an artisan soap sample with pouch. ~
*Use the artisan soap while INSIDE pouch to assure concentrated
cleaning agents do not come in direct contact with fabric surfaces.
*To prepare wash water, wet soap pouch while rubbing between palms to generate suds, swish palms and sudsy pouch in wash water until cloudy. Soap pouch can also be used like a tea bag either steeping in wash water or hanging under running water.
*Fold garment in half and half again
* Immerse folded garment in wash water, continue immersing in and then pulling up out of water with up and down motion. 3 to 5 minutes.
*Drain soap water. Refill sink with clear rinse water.
*Repeat immersion action in Rinse water 3-5 minutes.
*Gently wring out cotton fabrics. silk and wool fabrics blot between two towels. I often run cotton garments through a gentle machine spin cycle then hang to dry
*Hang or lay flat to dry.
AVOID HANGING IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT

If using machine wash, method ~Turn garment inside out. ~
Cold wash on a delicate cycle with shampoo , remove promptly, Hang dry is preferred, iron if desired.

"Nature always wears the colors of the spirit" ~Emerson

My formative education is in landscape painting and life drawing. It is how I continue to approach my work and guiding belief to my creative philosophies. I sometimes jokingly say “my failure to grow up as landscape painter may explain why I have a profound appreciation for printing with leaves”. What is hard earned in balancing scale and proportion in my figure drawing I easily drape on my dress form. Earthen colors I once struggled so much to mimic with paint chroma flow effortlessly from leaf pigment. For all the hours I spent observing, sorting symmetry out of chaos and sketching nature's patterns none of my efforts ever gained so harmonious a rhythm and organic comparability as the overlapping contours in printed leaves. In all sincerity I most likely can still muster rendering a realistic landscape but, it is my capacity to respond emotionally to my experience in and with my natural surround I depend on most. Some of my favorite responsive landscape paintings are in Alan Gussow body of work A Painter’s Nature. “Gussow’s unique imagery captures the intimate link between man and the environment, invoking his personal encounters with the smells, sounds, tastes, and tactile sensations of nature.”~ Driscoll Babcock Galleries. Poet Richard Wilbur, in his introduction to Gussow’s book A Sense of Place says that three conditions must be met before an artist can paint a place, "observation, the adaptation of technique and the discovery of what in himself the scenery might declare" and this at last makes it "possible for him to paint .... " "It implies," Wilbur continues, "no easy affinity, no facile personalization or imposition of mood but a struggle with something powerfully other." The best landscape painters also know the value of waiting. They know, too, the moment when the scenery declares itself. Then they begin. So much of what is mentioned "to paint a place" is for me true of using natural pigments with natural forces "to print a place", especially the value of waiting. Time can do all things, to "print a place" the artist leans in hard with an approximation of how, when and where natural alchemy is comfortable with making relationships. Most every plant life match making will result with a mark. Some plant life simply has more to say than others and some are absolutely the life of the party in due season, given some time most will make lasting impressions.

"'Organic'... means that the work is an extension of your blood and body: it has the rhythm of nature. There exists a state of feeling that when you reach it, when you hit it, you can't go wrong. The work carries a body rhythm. You can't do the slick... the gimmicky or dishonest." ~Nell Blaine/ American landscape painter, expressionist, and watercolorist
____________________________________________________________________________________________
When I set out to make clothing, I started as an artist making clothing. The pieces are really labor-intensive and time-consuming. I think they embody a message, and they’re endowed with a soul and a story.
I think people are embracing creativity. I think that creativity and uniqueness and this idea of a one-of-a-kind thing—whether it’s destroyed or handmade—is, to some people right now, more valuable than the most precious fabric. Regardless of the label, they’re recognizing that there’s an authorship behind what they’re wearing. Someone made this and there may not be another one like it, so that’s what gives it its value. ~Los Angeles-based designer Greg Lauren
