Shamanic Tools Crafted With Loving Intention

I established HanaqPacha in 2015 after several years of working in Peruvian shamanic healing and with plant medicines. Upon returning from an extended trip to Peru's Sacred Valley earlier in 2015, I realized how difficult it was to find well-made/fitted kuripes and tepis for rapé administration, and so I began crafting them out of my Los Angeles home for members of my community. What began as a small scale project for members this shamanic community soon blossomed into a much larger scale business and HanaqPacha was born.

Since then, I've expanded our offerings to include a variety of healing crystals, focusing on specific varieties from South America, as well as tribal jewelry, rare incense resins, textiles from the Andean Mountains, and handcrafted tools from other artisans I've met along the way.

My hope is to continue to expand and offer those in the global shamanic community the finest shamanic tools to crafted with loving intention, as well as sacred and rare natural findings we come across along our travels.

Finally, in 2017, I began my Somatic Healing practice (Somatic LA), and so my time is now split between seeing clients in the Los Angeles area (and beyond) and operating HanaqPacha. It is my honor to be of service.

Many thanks for your support,
Jon DeRosa

Frequently asked questions
What makes HanaqPacha kuripes and tepis special?

I hand select each piece of quality bamboo from my local importer, to ensure the best materials will be used.

Unlike most bamboo coming into the US, the bamboo I work with is imported in refrigerated shipping containers, ensuring that it is super fresh, clean, and free of mold.

Back at my home workshop in Los Feliz, I hand saw, file and sand each one, before hand wrapping and adorning them. Some pipes are also treated with a natural mineral oil to protect the bamboo. I use only natural materials and non-toxic adhesive. I don't ever repeat exact designs, so no two are alike. You can always be sure that you are buying a one-of-a-kind art piece.

Each kuripe and tepi is cleansed with Palo Santo before being offered for purchase.

How can I be sure it will fit?

I have sold many kuripes and tepis over the years and very rarely have had one returned because of fit. I have developed a design that is nearly universal and designed to fit just about everyone.

That said, I always suggest that once you receive your kuripe to "try it on" without rapé first to ensure a good fit. If you find it is not a good fit, please contact me and we'll work out a return (*please be sure you do this before you actually use it with rapé, because once it is used, I am not able to accept returns for hygenic reasons).

If you have extra petite nostrils and require a smaller nose pipe, I do have "narrow" sizes that will be labeled as such.

If you're not sure what you need, just ask and I'll be happy to help you!

Why do you not lacquer/stain your pipes?

Most lacquers have toxic ingredients, and these chemicals can interfere with the energy of the medicine, as well as being not really safe physically for something that will be in your mouth and nose. I do treat some of my pipes with a natural mineral oil, which protects and brings out the natural color of the bamboo.

I do use all natural black bamboo for some of my pipes if you prefer a darker color or something different than the standard yellow bamboo.

What does "HanaqPacha" mean?

HanaqPacha refers to the "upper world" in the Peruvian cosmology, as the UkuPacha would be the lower world, and the KayPacha would be the middle world.

Custom and personalized orders

Absolutely! I am happy to craft a unique design for you. Just use the "Request Custom Order" button on my shop page or send me a message and let me know what you have in mind.

Turnaround for custom orders is typically fairly quick (1 week), however this can vary depending on time of year.

Why choose a HanaqPacha kuripe/tepi?

I have been making these sacred medicine tools since 2015, and to date I have crafted somewhere around 2000-3000 kuripes and tepis for my worldwide community.

With experience comes precision and quality, and that is what I offer in my tools.

I pride myself on making high-quality kuripes and tepis that combine beautiful design and superb functionality at the most reasonable prices around. I strive for simplicity in design and comfort in use. With a HanaqPacha pipe, you are getting a sacred ceremonial tool, that is also a lovingly handcrafted art piece.
