Announcement   Welcome!

See my hand-painted spindles in the Get This! section of Spring 2015 Spin-Off magazine!

In this shop you will find my Russian decorative painting and unique handspun yarns.

For centuries, Russians used folk art to decorate everyday items, to make them feel special. I feel that some of that is lost today, in our age of mass production. I want to do what my ancestors have done, to make everyday items feel special, to change the relationship that we have with the "everyday" object.

I am passionate about using only the best fleeces from sheep that are loved and well looked after. By purchasing from my shop you are helping to support the small farmers that raise rare and heritage breeds of sheep.

You can see some more of my yarn on Ravelry. My yarn brand is called Unique Handspun and my username is Handcraftedgifts.

Luba's spindles are so beautiful that I just had to own one... However, one is not enough.. This is my second spindle from her shop and I couldn't be more thrilled. They are even more beautiful when you see them up close. They spin like butter and I feel rich every time I look at them... Great service (sent out same day I ordered them) and even though it takes two weeks to arrive from Australia they were well worth the wait. Thanks Luba, I love them!

Beautiful spindle. The colors are even prettier in person. I am so pleased and can't wait to take it for a spin.

About

About Me

When I was growing up in Moscow, my family had a beautifully painted Zhostovo tray proudly displayed on the living room shelf. I admired its intricately painted flowers and bright happy colours, and since then, I have loved Russian decorative painting.

Sometimes my father would put me on his knee and teach me to paint. He has recently passed away, and I am grateful for his encouragement, and for developing my love of painting from an early age.

My love for spinning yarn began several years ago when a friend bought me a spinning wheel. It took a lot of patient practice to learn to spin well, but it was worth it.

A few years ago, merging my two favorite things, I began to paint spindles. I am constantly learning and developing my skills. I am always looking to improve in some way.

I am now in my final year of studying Bachelor of Visual Arts at Adelaide College of the Arts and I love it. I am thinking about studying my Masters next.

Being brought up in Moscow, I love Russian decorative painting. I also love all things fiber, especially dyeing and spinning yarns.Recently I merged my hobbies and began making spindles with Russian style decorative painting.
