    About

She is too fond of books

I took a college class on the history of the book and the physical structures fascinated me. My inner geek was very enchanted by the obscurity of details like the headbands and the origin of the word folio. I started bookbinding as a hobby to pass the time after graduation and quickly found it consuming my thoughts in the daytime. I'm like that coworker whose desk is half taken up with drawings of birds and flowers instead of budgets and reports!

I try to create graceful, playful styles with a touch of roughness that reflect their natural sources (as much upcycled paper as I can get) and handmade background. I know my materials inside out, how they will behave in different conditions and how they will act over time. And most importantly to me, my books will be present in the most important times of people's lives and house their memories - their weddings, travels and the daily thoughts and joys that tell us where we've been and who we are.

When I was a kid, I spent recess time sitting against the brick wall of the school, reading mass market paperbacks. When I was a teenager, I wrote poetry and memorized the words of the greats. Now I make the houses they live in.

    Welcome! :)

I handbind journals, sketchbooks, photo albums and scrapbooks with Asian papers and paste-free bindings. My books combine ancient structures with clean, modern lines and environmentally friendly materials. Check out my "treefree" section, which features books I've covered in plant fibers-based paper.

My philosophy: What you use is who you are. Create, not just consume. Support people, not companies. Make your own world.
