Making High Quality Natural Clothing That You Will Love - A Product of GR General Store

I have always loved well-made, quality clothes that are beautiful and flattering. My family has had a store in the pink city for 150 years. The fabric itself is printed for our store by a joint family just outside of Jaipur, and all of the processes are done by hand by members of the family. The women prepping the fabric and doing much of the block-printing itself, the men outside mixing the indigo dye and dyeing the fabric in long strips. The process itself ranges from simple to surprisingly elaborate techniques involving multiple hand printings, different blends of vegetable dye, sawdust, mud, and several stages starting from 100% unbleached cotton. I check each of the bolts of fabric myself for quality, consistency of print (you can tell it is handmade by the characteristic minute discrepancies in the print) and I bring them to my store where my tailors work to sew ready-to-wear and custom-made clothes for locals, tourists, and boutiques internationally. We have been adorning people with our designs since 2015, and we hope you will beautify yourselves with a garment we have made just for you.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

Please WASH your purchases (separately) before wearing. Some of our natural dyes, especially in Indigo, will leave excess powder on your skin or clothes. This powder won't stain either, and is non-toxic, but it does have a slight metallic smell and is just nicer to get rid of in the wash than on you. The fabric is already PRE-SHRUNK, so it won't affect the fit.

Wholesale availability

We LOVE filling wholesale orders, of our own items, or if your custom creations. Send us a message and we are happy to discuss fabrics, fit, creation time, and shipping until it's just right for you and your store.

Sizing details

See our International Sizing Chart, (coming soon) or better yet, send us your measurements at no extra charge for a custom fit!

How heavy/light is the fabric?

All of our fabrics are 100% natural cotton and vary from light to very lightweight! While our solid colour are considerably more opaque, all of our fabrics would let in some light if held up to a lamp.

What is your clothing made of?

100% Cotton! We only use cotton. Cotton, Cotton Voile, cotton in different weights and colours. It breathes beautifully in the hot Indian desert, flows gracefully, and just gets softer the more you wash it.
Also the buttons are handmade from coconuts, and fake pearls.

I am buying fabric. Is it good for my project ?

Congratulations! All our fabrics are wonderful. Some are more suitable for certain projects, so feel free to ask us specifically. Broadly, all our cotton is good for dresses, skirts, tops, headbands, curtains, kimonos, kaftans, throw pillows, accents, bedclothes, home decor, placemats, napkins, artwork and craft projects.

Custom and personalized orders

Want something made we don't offer? Our tailors have SKILLS! Show us a photograph, picture or design along with your measurements and we would love to make your heart's desire come to life.

Shipping is expensive! What can we do about it?

Alas, shipping does happen to make our exquisitely priced items a bit more costly (sometimes double!) We use international express shipping - usually with DHL- because it's fast! 3-6 days depending where you live- it allows us to track it, and it's reliable. If the cost of shipping is a problem, but time and reliability is less of an issue, we can talk about using India Post, though we find that it's not usually so much cheaper that the time and worry is worth it. But, it's your money and your choice.

Do you have more/other prints/fabrics/colours

We have so many other prints and colours, and we get new ones every week- sometimes twice a week! We haven't figured out a perfect system for posting them all, because it would take a lot of our time, and we work 12 hour days in our storefront, so if there's something you'd like tell us and we will happily show you more prints that we have in stock until you find the ones that you simply must have.

What width is the fabric?

It is 44" with a beautiful and useable selvedge, if that's your thing.
