Making Hats For The World - Because The World Needs Hats

My journey to Etsy was a long one, but a joyous one. I started making and selling handmade hats for men in 1999, having seen someone else online selling hats, I was inspired to do the same. My story begins with that inspiration and found love back in the day of making my own custom made hats.

My mother taught me how to crochet back in the 80's when I was young, and I taught myself how to knit not long after. I never really put those skills to any meaningful production however until I found inspiration to start my own business. That business would be producing my own line of handmade knit and crochet hats or beanies as some call them.

I started out first on ebay in 1999, and had a few websites I maintained, from where I sold some of my products, but it took until 2010 to really come up with a name of my shop to settle on, and I decided to call it The Hat Pit. I'm really into grunge color schemes, and I love anything with skull designs, which was the inspiration for my shop name because I love designing my website with a skull and gothic-like theme.... which is kind of ironic because I'm not a gothic type person really at all.... but my theme fits the target market I'm going for which is the younger male crowd... which is also another ironic thing since most of my customers tend to be older men, and women who buy my hats for their husbands/boyfriends :-)

One of the biggest reasons I really got inspired to start producing my hats was because I noticed years ago that there really wasn't a lot of men doing this and it was mostly women. I wanted to break the cycle so to speak. I knew that I loved making hats for myself, and I just had a hunch that I might be successful at selling my hats made for men. So I gave it a shot, and here I am today, sometimes shipping out hats faster than I can make them.

Beanies have been around for decades, however they really started growing in popularity in the 90's as far back as I remember. My greatest inspiration for making the handmade beanies you find in my shop comes from having bought a really cool crocheted beanie I found at a department store in the mall after I got out of the Army in 1996. I wore that hat out... and it was my favorite beanie..... and I could never find another one like it, or one that fit. So I started making my own. And sometimes I still buy name brand beanies..... but you can't beat a good old fashioned handmade beanie... and I just love making them, and I love all the compliments I get from my customers about them.

My hats can be purchased either as custom made to order items from my website, or you can purchase ready made and ready to ship items from my etsy shop.

Hi and thank you so much for visiting my shop. I am a guy who loves to knit hats for both men and women. It is just one of many things I love to do among other things such as getting outdoors and amateur photography. I fell in love with beanies back in the late 90's after getting out of the Army and once I discovered the internet back then, it didn't take long to discover someone online selling hand-knit and crocheted hats.... I said to myself, "I can do that too", and that is how my hat making adventure began. I learned how to knit and crochet when I was a boy and it's been a lifelong adventure I treasure dearly. My mother taught me how to crochet, and then I later taught myself how to knit. I have had customers from all over the world buy and love my hats and am very thankful and proud of that. I am sorry however at this time I'm only able to ship to U.S. residents.

Refunds and Exchanges
No returns, no exchanges, no refunds. I've worked many years creating my own patterns and producing products suitably fitted for adults. I've been selling my hats off and on online since 1999 and have never had a complaint regarding fit, or indescribed item. I know that is a bold statement to make, but it is true. I make every effort to ensure every hat will fit, however bear in mind my hats are handmade in a "one size fits all"... this includes for both men and women. Please make sure you do want one of my items before purchasing and if you have any questions about one of my hats, please do not hesitate to contact me.
