*Catfish Bones: sourced from Dulac or Manchac Louisiana, all parts of the fish I catch are used for food, gardening, and art.

*Alligator Scutes: Sourced from locally owned Louisiana alligator farms that raise their own gators, market all parts (including meat, hide, & bone), and release a percentage of their gators back into the wild to ensure their survival.

*Resin Bracelets and RIngs: Filled with Spanish moss, Cypress leaves, and Native Louisiana wild flowers.

About

Swamp Jewelry: Inspired by moss draped cypress, cicada songs, and Louisiana ghost stories.

Growing up in southern Louisiana as an overly anxious and quiet kid, I discovered at an early age the many joys of creating art! But it wasn't until recently that I discovered my main inspiration in the Louisiana wetlands. Every time I'd go exploring the swamps in my kayak, all I could think about was how can I take this beautiful place with me, because I NEVER wanna leave! One xmas, my boyfriend made me a cypress necklace from his driftwood collection and after that I realized what I needed to do. Now my favorite pastime is searching for fallen pieces of cypress and whatever else I can turn into wearable art that represents the undeniable beauty of Louisiana nature.
And because I LOVE a good ghost story, I mainly sift through the swamps of Frenier, Ruddock, and Manchac Louisiana, the famous haunting grounds of Aunt Julia Brown…

The Manchac ghost story of Aunt Julie Brown:
As with any old ghost story, the details vary, but they all revolve around a song sang by the mysterious Aunt Julie Brown. Some describe her as the town Oracle or a VooDoo practitioner who would sit on her porch every day singing a song with the main verse being "One day I'm gonna die, and I'm gonna take all of you with me". They say one day after her death, she provoked the West Indian hurricane of 1915 that destroyed the entire town, killing nearly everyone. There have been alleged sightings of her walking around the swamps, singing her song while dressed in white, along with the lost spirits of the towns people that were killed.

With all that being said, with this Etsy shop, I hope to spread my passionate, haunty swamp joys to the rest of the world!

♥ Wood Care Tips ♥

Even though all Haunted Cypress wood is sanded, polished, and coated with either a Boiled Linseed Oil, Lacquer, or Polyurethane finish, the wood is still porous and may absorb or lose moisture depending on the environment in which it is worn or stored.

**Without regular maintenance your wooden jewelry may dry out, split, or the wood grains may rise up and become rough.** To avoid this from happening to your wooden jewelry you must apply oil accordingly.

**Types of oil I recommend:
♥ Jojoba Oil
♥ Vitamin E Oil
♥ Grape seed Oil
♥ Boiled Linseed Oil

♥ For LINSEED OIL finishes: To keep the wood from deteriorating I recommend applying the oil with a Q-tip, rag, or paintbrush. You can buff off the excess oil with a clean soft cloth. This can be done about once a month or just whenever you notice your wooden pendant is starting to look a little dry.

♥ For LACQUER or POLYURETHANE finishes: To keep the sealant from deteriorating I recommend applying the oil with a Q-tip, rag, or paintbrush. You can buff off the excess oil with a clean soft cloth (kind of like waxing a car). This can be done approx. 2-3 times a year.

*Do not leave your wood jewelry in direct sunlight.

*Avoid getting your wood jewelry wet or left stored in a humid area.

♥ Maintenance of your wooden pendant is essential for it's longevity. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
