Announcement    9/21 - For those that pre-ordered this year's Autumn Mix Frankensocks kit, my goal was/is to ship them around the first day of Autumn (which is tomorrow!) so be on the lookout for a shipping confirmation over the next few days. Thanks so much for your support. I hope everyone likes the colorways.

This month's Spooky Slumber Party orders have shipped. I'm finishing up the Natural History sock sets now and they will ship within the next few days.

5/5 - A note about pre-order listings. Please take a minute or two to read the item description. I try to cover my bases as much as possible so that there are no surprises for customers. This includes base yarn info and estimated shipping dates. Of course if you've read everything and have a question that was not answered in the item description, please send me an Etsy Convo.

And please, I ask that everyone pay attention and be mindful of the estimated shipping dates for Frankensocks kit pre-orders as well as a note about Etsy shipping info in regards to pre-orders. I have not experienced any issues with this in the years prior, but recently I've been getting quite a few questions asking when a particular pre-order will be shipping and/or (unfortunately) messages from customers who are upset that their order hasn't shipped yet even though it is still prior to the shipping date. The estimate shipping date is provided in the item description for this very reason, so if you do not approve of the time frame/shipping date, please do not purchase the listing.

Also, a lot of work goes into the themed Frankensocks kits, that is why I offer them as pre-orders. It is a very labor intensive process and as it is just me here, I have my hand in every part of that process from designing the graphic for the listing (Please don't judge. I'm totally not a professional graphic designer. If that wasn't already obvious.), research and planning colorways, dyeing, winding, designing and creating the labels, extras, shipping materials, etc. At a minimum (not including any extra kits), winding for these kits equals 800 5 gram mini skeins, all hand wound by myself. It is very much like making an advent calendar and it takes some time. Please note that life still happens while I am working on pre-orders and I will continue to work on shop orders, wholesale, etc. Recently I had a customer who was upset that I was working on other orders, had my annual shop sale, etc. while working the Frankensocks kit pre-order, as if these things were causing a delay in shipping date of the kits. Either they failed to read/remember the shipping date provided in the listing or they felt that I should not be working on anything other than the kit pre-order. So by that logic, anyone who offers a yarn advent pre-order in April/May would not be permitted to work on anything else or fulfill any other orders until those advent calendars shipped in October/November. That is absurd. But I feel the need to mention this to again try to cover all my bases here. If what I've mentioned is upsetting to you and you do not agree, again please do not place an order. Unless there are some extenuating circumstances (and I'm not sure what that would be), pre-order kits/listings will not ship ahead of the shipping date provided. Also, I generally ship kit pre-orders during the last week of the month, with the exception of if a major holiday (such as Christmas or New Years) occurs during that week. Please note that when I state "the week of" in estimated shipping dates that does not necessarily mean orders will ship on Monday. It means any time between Monday through Friday/Saturday of that week. I also tend to ship one base on one day and the other base the next. For example, if I ship all Pax Sock kits on Thursday, the Potomac Sock kits will ship the next day (Friday). I do this to help prevent any errors while assembling and packaging kits for shipping. I hope that this info helps shed some light on the pre-order Frankensocks kit process and why some things are done as they are. Again, if at any time, you don't agree with a shipping date, turnaround time frame or something of that nature in regards to an item listing, please do not purchase the item.

Thanks!

4/20 - I'm still catching up on Etsy Convos and emails. If you've sent me a message and 3 or 4 days later I have not responded, please send me message/reminder. It's a possibility that your message/convo has gotten buried under new messages or replies or I simply missed it by accident. I don't want to leave anyone hanging, so please reach out again if I haven't responded.

4/11 - I stand in solidarity with the artists/makers/crafters that are currently protesting/boycotting the use of Etsy from 4/11 through 4/18. To learn more visit etsystrike.org. You can still send me an Etsy Convo if needed during this time and listings will return 4/19. May's Spooky Slumber Party and Natural History Sock Sets will be available on 4/19 as well.

Also, it is time to revisit some shop policies. This info is included in my shop policies section and I've mentioned it a few times in announcements as well, but it has recently come up yet again, so I figured it's a good idea to revisit some policies and set some boundaries.

First, small businesses are run by real people. Real people with responsibilities and obligations outside of running a small business/Etsy shop. Please keep that in mind. If you send an Etsy Convo, please note that I typically respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours MONDAY - FRIDAY. If you send a convo after 7pm (EST) on a Friday evening or during the weekend, I may not respond until Sunday evening or sometime on Monday. Much like any other person with a full-time job, I like to take a day or two off per week to attend to other things in my life as well. It's mind boggling how many dyers/makers/shop owners I've seen that have to plead with folks to understand this.

Second, please do not send the same message multiple times within a 24-48 hour period. It is common courtesy to give someone 24-48 hours to respond. If you keep sending the same message over and over again it's rude and obnoxious and may lead to a less than pleasant response. Seriously. I don't know of any other shop owner who appreciates this behavior. So don't do it. Also, just because you've paid in advance for an item/order does not make it ok to do this either. Yes, as shop owners, we appreciate your order and support. However, that does not mean that any shop owner is obligated to be at a customer's beck and call 24/7 nor does that give any customer an excuse to borderline harass sellers. Again, small businesses are run by real people.

And finally, a note about shipping and USPS. I usually print shipping labels out the day/evening before an order is set to ship. Sometimes, if I know I won't be making a trip to the PO until later in the day, I will print out shipping labels the day of in an effort to get an many orders out as possible. I also try to set the shipping confirmation to reflect the actual day an order is set to be dropped off at the PO and not just the day the label was created/printed. USPS has been experiencing delays and slowed transit times since 2020. We are two years into this and yet some folks don't seem to know or care. Please note that once I drop an order off at the PO it is out of my hands and beyond my control. I cannot be held responsible for USPS delays. However, if it has been 4 or 5 business days since your order has shipped and you do not see any updates in tracking or your order states "pre-transit" please let me know and I will follow up with USPS. Also keep in mind that USPS is not Amazon delivery and please do not expect your order to ship and be delivered the following day. (Unless of course you live in the same or neighboring state and then even that is no guarantee.)

Hand-Dyed Sock/Fingering Weight Yarn

Thanks for checking out my shop! I'm Carol, the dyer behind Havirland. I dye in small batches using a variety of techniques. All yarn is dyed using professional grade acid dyes.

I think I have weird tastes, along with a strange sense of humor. I'm a film enthusiast and find that a lot of my inspiration comes from late night B-movie marathons and horror. I'm also fascinated by the colors found in nature and enjoy natural history. I dye yarn that I would want to knit with, and I hope you find something you'd like to work with as well.

Currently dyeing in southern Maryland.

My sweet/pesky feather friend, Dingus McGee, passed away in March (2019), but his memory will always live on as my shop mascot. Fly high sweet McGee.

Shipping
Please see listing details for turnaround times/shipping. Please also see announcements for any covid related updates, etc.

I try to combine orders whenever possible to save on shipping costs for customers. However, sometimes due to the high volume of orders that might not be possible.

I ship to the address on file with Etsy. Please check to make sure that it is correct. If you find any errors with your address on file, please contact me immediately. As a small business, I cannot issue refunds for orders sent to the wrong address.

Orders ship via USPS. In the US, orders under 16oz ship via First Class. Orders over 16oz have to ship Priority. Tracking is included for both First Class and Priority.

At the moment shipping is limited to the US and Canada. International shipping costs keep increasing and often times can be almost as expensive as the product itself. Also, we are still experiencing delays and issues with USPS and I'm just not sure that I trust international shipping right now. I'm very sorry to those outside of the US and Canada. Hopefully one day things will be much better and I can start shipping internationally again.
Additional policies and FAQs
UPDATE 4/10/22 - Please note below that I typically respond to Etsy Convos 24-48 hours MONDAY - FRIDAY. If you send me an Etsy Convo Friday night (after 7pm EST) or over the weekend, I may not respond until Sunday night or Monday.

I usually respond to Etsy Convos within 24 - 48 hours (Monday-Friday). However, as it is just me here, sometimes it may take up to 72 hours if I'm swamped with orders or under a deadline. If three business days have passed and I have not responded, please message me again.

Care is taken to represent colors as accurately as possible, however please note that all monitors are calibrated differently. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me a message via Etsy Convo.

Interested in a colorway that's not currently listed in the shop? Send me a convo/request, most likely I can dye it for you (excluding club/exclusive colorways, of course).
