I'm a fiber artist and language teacher living in montréal. I've always loved creating and making things with my hands. My mother taught me how to sew and I grew up making myself clothing and designing things for friends. Later on, I ventured off to Mexico to learn jewelry-making and then spent time learning upholstery with a local artisan.
I returned to my first love, textiles and fiber, and opened HAZEL & HUNTER in 2009. I'm always experimenting with new techniques: handprinting, dyeing, weaving, but always with very organic, natural materials. When I started weaving, I immediately felt a connection to this ancient art and it's become my main artistic outlet.
When I start a new weaving, most often I have no idea what it will look like until I take it off the loom. I let the piece happen organically as I work. Often I'll make a sketch beforehand but I always end up changing the piece in some way.

I find inspiration in textures, nature, ancient textiles and travel. Each wall hanging is carefully woven by hand, a slow process that contributes to all kinds of beautiful irregularities and makes each piece one-of-a-kind.
