Forever and A Day

Heart of Hearts Jewels specializes in antique jewelry from the 17th - early 20th centuries. Every piece offered is thoughtfully vetted for quality, craftsmanship, history, and unique charm. Authenticity is fully guaranteed. Marion Yang, owner and principal, is a GIA Applied Jewelry Professional (AJP), and a student in the Graduate Gemologist program (GG). She graduated in 2013 from Harvard with a BA in history and literature, and was the 2013 recipient of the Harvard Bowdoin Prize (awarded each year to one undergrad in the humanities).

Our modus operandi is pretty straightforward:

1. Discover and source jewelry with an eye towards history, scholarship, and beauty. Whenever possible, offer pieces with comparable examples illustrated in books and museums.

2. Do a great job. That means high-resolution photos, detailed descriptions. Reasonable and fair pricing. Represent jewels accurately; double-check all condition reports, measurements, and precious metal content.

3. Respect our customers. Back every purchase with a satisfaction pledge. We will never charge restocking fees. Shipping is free and fast for USA domestic customers (2-day USPS priority). Purchases come boxed and gift wrapped, accompanied with printed descriptions. Our "no questions asked" return policy gives you 7 days to notify us, and 14 days to ship the package back.

Frequently asked questions
"What is your layaway policy?"

Newly offered items will be available for layaway 24 hours after they are listed in the shop (the exception being short layaways of under 30 days).

I offer up to 4 months for items priced $1,000 or lower, and up to 6 months for items priced above $1,000. 15% of the purchase price will function as a nonrefundable deposit in the event of sudden or unexplained cancellation. Payments are expected at least monthly. Items purchased on a layaway plan longer than 2 months are not eligible for returns motivated by a change of mind. And of course, no interest shall ever be charged.

** Please note that only one layaway per customer is allowed (i.e. you cannot put a second item on layaway without completing your current outstanding layaway). **

"Can this ring be resized?"

Always check in with me if you are purchasing a ring with the intention of getting it resized. Some rings with heat sensitive stones, such as turquoise, emerald, pearl, and opal, can be resized only by a jeweler familiar with laser welders (traditional open-flame resizing methods will not work here).

Resized rings are considered personalized custom orders, and once modified, can no longer be returned. So please make sure you are satisfied with your order prior to taking it to a jeweler to be resized.

"Can you resize this ring for me?"

I don't personally resize rings. I can however take a ring to my local jeweler to be resized. He is equipped with laser welders, and is thus able to resize antique rings with heat-sensitive stones. This jeweler charges $25 to size down, and $35-50 to size up (due to the extra gold being added).

Resized rings are however considered personalized custom orders, and once modified, can no longer be returned.

"How accurate are your carat measurements?"

One can measure the true carat weight of a gemstone only by taking it out of its setting and placing it on a scale in its unmounted state. It is impossible to perform this task on delicate antique jewelry without inflicting damage. My carat measurements are provided only as an estimate. I take the stone's dimensions with a digital caliper, and generate a working estimate with the aid of a computer program.

"How accurate are your diamond reports?"

I am not a professional GIA diamond specialist. While I have devoted many, many hours to the study of gemology, any comment I make regarding diamonds should be treated as consulting information to aid the buyer, and not as a full GIA gemstone report. Please note that by industry standards, a gemstone appraiser's grades can often differ up to and including one full grade

Again, I always stand by my satisfaction guarantee: if, for any reason, you do not like your purchase, I will take it back and issue a full refund.

"This jewelry item isn't marked. How are you able to determine the gold karat purity?"

We test all unmarked gold thoroughly:

1. First, we test with nitric & muriatic acid.

2. All results are verified with an electronic gold tester.

3. A rare earth neodymium magnet is used to rule out the presence of a base metal core.

It's extremely common for antique jewelry to be entirely unmarked-- especially those made in the United States prior to the 20th century. Even countries with standardized hallmarking systems (i.e. Great Britain and France) will yield a large number of jewelry lacking any discernable marks. Sometimes marks will be lost when the jewelry article is modified during conversions, repairs, or ring resizings.

"I received my order and you did not mention ______ in the listing."

I spend many hours taking high-resolution photos, writing detailed descriptions, taking measurements, and making videos of my items. In the rare event I have accidentally left out a detail in my listing, I will stand by my satisfaction guarantee by taking back your purchase and issuing a full refund. I am always learning new ways to represent my offerings as comprehensively as possible.

"I'm a jewelry dealer and want to purchase your item(s) to resell. Can you give me your best dealers' price / discount?"

I understand that dealers need to factor in profits when purchasing. However, to be considerate and fair to all my customers, I don't offer a special discount just for dealers or a separate pricing scheme for those in the trade.
