This is a cute perzine from 2015, written by Mary Reed. A good mix of typed and handwritten, she tells personal stories and anecdotes about living in NY, tips on how to keep a journal, and also shares a few of her personal mantras. I wasn't so into the Harriet and Claudia fan fiction, but the rest was great. This is a quick read, an easy read, but enjoyable.
from the journal to the typewriter, cut + paste + photocopied to you.
heartshaped is a zine I started writing in high school, which makes it important: most things that I made in high school are irrelevant or embarrassing now, but even the name "heartshaped" is one that I've never stopped loving.
heartshaped is sometimes embarrassing, even the newer ones; of all the things I make, it's the thing that's most truthful and least edited. A lot of the writing in each zine comes directly from my personal journals. That's scary for me, but that's also what I think makes it good.
I've started re-printing some of my back issues, and you should know that every one of them stays as true as possible to the originals. I used the same binding methods and the same materials (papers, buttons, etc.) when possible. Little hand-stitched details are my signature.
Mary Reed lives & works in NYC. She has a BFA in fashion design from SCAD and spends absolutely all of her free time making things and reading classic children's literature.
