Love for glass

I had been dabbling in jewellery-making for a little while when I was introduced to artisan lampwork beads, and I fell in love! I did some research, discovered that these were things you could make yourself with the right equipment, had a lesson with a local London beadmaker, and didn't look back!

When I first started I made beads every night after work and in the afternoons at weekends. I read voraciously: tips, techniques, colour reactions. Then I tried them out and sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't. Coming back to something you couldn't manage before and finding you can do it now is a wonderful feeling. I went to classes and learned in person from lampworkers from all over the world, including Murano in Italy, the USA, South Africa, the Netherlands and here in the UK.

After spending twenty months making beads, I was confident enough in my work to begin selling it. I can't make things *every* night now, but a week without creating something is a sad week.

In 2013 I have been developing my jewellery designs, learning sculptural lampwork techniques and using different types of glass with different characteristics.

Molten glass is a fantastic material. You can stretch it like toffee, drip it on your bench... but keep it out of the flame too long and it will cool and crack on you. There's always something it can teach you.

I look forward to learning it.

My beads and jewellery are made with care, but remember that they are still glass! Dropping them on a hard surface may damage them.
Perfumes and other cosmetics can damage the surface finish on some types of beads, particularly ones with a metallic finish.
