Even more charming than the colorful photo shows, and excellent quality. Very happy to send as gift for my sister who loves travel south of the border.

Beautiful! One of the nicest items I've purchased on Etsy. Fast shipping and a nice personalized note on care of the garment. Thank you!

About

A maker, me.

I make things. The way things were made when things mattered. When things made weren't just cast aside when something new came along. When things weren't made in places far away, by people we've never met, and when people cared as much or more about the making of the thing as how much money they would make from it.

I like to use materials from those times or that speak to it, and work mostly with what I find locally. Sometimes vintage materials or those that were surplus, extra, forgotten, abandoned, or otherwise cast aside. My process starts from rescuing these materials and they determine the final product. I may collect or have elements on hand for a project for years until their purpose finally becomes clear, and in what final form they can best be shared. So every thing I make is just a little bit different, not just from things found at the local mall or online department store, but often different from other things I make myself. It all depends on the materials, what they decide to be, and when.

I prefer to use natural or naturally based materials, because in more modern day mass produced products, the trend is to use cheaper synthetics. When it comes to fabrics, synthetic can look nice but doesn't always feel so nice next to the skin or to the hand, and how things feel is very important to me. When it comes to clothing, I also feel like skin wants to breathe, something it can't do in synthetic plastic based fabrics like polyester, acrylic, etc. In fabrics I prefer cottons, silks, and woolens. I'm actually allergic to wool myself but I still love to use it and live vicariously through the people who buy my woolen products. One of my favorite fabrics for clothing is rayon. It is a man made fabric made from a natural base ie wood pulp or sometimes bamboo. It breathes and feels like cotton while in most weaves I use flows like silk. So nice to work with and so very nice to wear. I prefer real leather to faux, and wood, metal, or glass to plastic wherever possible. Though in sewing, while I do have lots of vintage threads, I do most often use new polyester thread for it's strength and durability.

Mine is not a "fast fashion" shop. My process is not a quick one; assembly lines, production times, and how fast I can get things to market and not of primary concern here. What I make is for people who look at the things they own as an extension of themselves, who want things that are different, thoughtful, have or tell a story, and are maybe even a little offbeat and quirky. I am definitely trend conscious but like to stay either a step ahead of mainstream or slightly off trend. Sometimes that comes through simply by virtue of materials I choose, to me nothing is more fun and interesting than a modern trend created with vintage or counterpoint materials. When it comes to style, fashion, and the things we use and buy, I feel like there is more than one way to riff on a trend. I like being part of the conversation, but to have fun with it, sometimes with irony, irreverence, or just my own personal brand of creativity. I like what I do (most of the time) and I hope you like it too.
