About

Hello Hello.

My name is Samantha, but everyone calls me Sam.

This all began when my Mom and my Grandmother showed me how to crochet at the age of four. In between playing Laser Tag and having Super Soaker fights with my brothers, I was toiling away crocheting doilies and scarves.

+ I had my first tool kit at five.
+ I was wood burning at age six (which in hindsight might not have been the safest thing).
+ I was soldering metals at eight. (Also, not very safe...)
+ I was screen-printing at eleven.
+ I was oil painting at twelve.
+ I was developing my own film at fourteen.
+ I was hand pouring candles at fifteen.
+ A few friends and I had our own (fondly nicknamed) "sweatshop" at sixteen. We were pumping out fleece scarves, cosplay orders, and cotton and silk ties after school.
+ I was hand sewing stuffed animals for friends at twenty.
+ I taught myself how to knit at twenty-seven.
+ I learned how to throw pottery, pour ceramics, and slip pour at twenty-eight.

In college I gobbled up classes, like Leslie Knope to waffles. Whether they were art, law, politics, sociology, or psychology. I was writing summations, printmaking, and debating with the best of them. I was in and (absurdly) active in at least ten different campus organizations at any one time, all the while working and serving as Art Director for the campus satirical magazine: DUIN.

After taking a year after graduating from Drake University to teach English and American culture in Hebei Province in China, I decided that going to Law School was not the path for me.

All in all, it was 6 billion crayons, colored pencils, oil pastels, my highly coveted sewing machine (which you know, every college student dreams about for Christmas), plastic buckets filled to the brim with fabric remnants, a fascination with the saponification process, power tools, and just making things.

When I'm not building Himmeli and fulfilling orders, you can currently find me behind my hand-weaving loom, teaching myself how to weave. I am currently obsessed with bright, beautiful colors, busy patterns, and clashing/complementing color schemes. And I hope that weaving will allow me an outlet for that.

I hope that you find something that you enjoy in my store.

For domestic orders, if you need expedited shipping or signature confirmation, additional fees will apply, and you can add those items on to your order yourself during the checkout process.

If you are aware of package thefts in your neighborhood or in the past, then I would recommend adding on signature confirmation to your order for the added security. Otherwise, if you do not select it, you are assuming responsibility for the package as outlined below.

⌂ Lost or Stolen Packages

Frequently asked questions

Are Air Plants included with Himmeli orders?

No. Traditionally each Himmeli does not come with an air plant. It is meant to be a minimalist, sculptural piece. It also allows for the Himmeli to be shipped internationally.

If you would like to add a plant, you can mix and match the air plants from my shop to suit your particular piece and tastes. Subject to availability.

Wholesale availability

If you are interested in wholesale, please let me know! Either by sending me a message through Etsy, or through e-mail at hello@hemleva.com

What do I do if my package is lost or stolen?

We are not responsible for lost or stolen packages.

returned packages |
If a package is returned due to a customer error (e.g. incorrect name, address or package refusal) the customer will then be responsible for any re-shipment charges.

lost or stolen packages |
A claim will be made for it as soon as possible, 30 days for USPS. In general, please allow 1-3 weeks to receive your delivery & longer during holidays.

If you would like a reshipment of a new order of goods due to it being lost along the way, you will be responsible for shipping charges once more. Otherwise we are more than happy to cancel your order, & to follow through with attempting to file a lost package claim, with the initial shipping cost being assumed by the purchaser.

When will I receive my item?

1-10 Business Days from the day of ordering.

Why?

All of the brass himmeli pieces are handmade to order. That process includes cutting, polishing, assembling and attaching hardware all by hand by the shop owner herself.

This ensures that the piece you receive is exactly what you request, and that the brass is as bright and shiny as possible.

If you need your piece sooner than that, please send us a message, and we will do our best, within reason, to accommodate your request.

What is the difference between a Tie Tack Back and a Rubber Clutch back for the pins?

The Rubber Clutch Back is made out of 100% rubber. It is a great option if you plan on wearing the pin on a T-shirt, or a hat. It is pretty secure, easy to use, and an excellent option for children.

The Tie Tack Back is brass plated. It is an incredibly secure option, and perfect if you want to wear your pin on your Jacket or a bag. They essentially "lock" into place and a mechanism has to be moved in order to release it from the pin post. It is a high-end option that is great if you are concerned about losing your pin as you wear it.
