Announcement   I will be out of the studio until July 5th. Orders received between now and then will be handled upon my return. Thanks for your understanding.

A Big THANK YOU to British VOGUE for featuring my Audrey Hepburn leather headband in a recent issue. Patrick Demarchelier photographed it beautifully.

The word Hende is derived from—and pronounced like—Hände, the German word for Hands. In Middle English Hende also meant "noble, graceful, clever and beautiful".

I saw this piece in Vogue and I was so delighted it is in Navy as well. The leather is thin but sturdy for headwear and it holds well for a normal-sized head

I got a taupe version and it's lovely - very soft leather and comfortable to wear.

About

In the Beginning was a Word: Hende

Inspired by the German word for "hands" (Hände), Hende also meant "noble, graceful, clever and beautiful" in MIddle English.

Rooted in good design, quality craft and natural materials that tread lightly on the earth, I founded my little in-home design studio in 2007, focusing on botanically inspired silk-screened clothing for women and babies.

In 2012, I shifted my focus to a line of leather jewelry that's made by hand in western Massachusetts. You can find Hende in fine boutiques around the state, including at MASS MOCA in North Adams.

I'm also a poet, teacher of writing and creative consultant. More about that over here:

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
I appreciate your support. Paypal is fast and easy but I'm also willing to accept a check or money order--just let me know to look for your payment in the mail if that is your intention.

As many of my items are made to order, I'll wait until payment clears to create your piece.
Shipping
In order to conserve time and resources, I ship 1-2 times per week, unless something is being rushed. If you are in a hurry, check with me in case we can get it to you sooner.

I ship to the address on your etsy receipt--not the Paypal address (which in some cases is not the same). Please make sure that this is the correct address.

The United States Post Office in my little town is a reasonably fast, very reliable, and an affordable way for me to ship your items. I have found that First Class mail is as fast--most of the time--as Priority, though if the order is large I will often ship Priority for your convenience.

If you desire insurance or delivery confirmation, let me know as I don't otherwise include those services. If you need something expedited, just ask.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are unhappy with your hand-made item, get in touch and we can work out an exchange, though I'd ask you to cover the return postage. Thanks for understanding that I am not a mega-store. If you do send something back, do so within a week of receiving it and please please please include a note with a recap of your issue and your username date of your purchase. Mine is a busy mailbox and this makes it a little easier to get things done in a timely manner.

I'm a one-girl operation and for this reason it is difficult for me to accommodate refunds. I want to keep my prices affordable, and I'm striving to make this project a viable way to make a living, which means trying to make you happy the first time around.

All shipping charges are Final. Buyer pays for all shipping for returns or exchanges.
Additional policies and FAQs
I'm often open to custom requests. Lately they take me about 2 weeks to complete due to the volume of regular orders and the occasional need to get special materials to accommodate the request.

Sundays are my day to sleep-in, roam, swim, pick flowers, slow down and cook good food. The dream is to do work I enjoy, at home, and to have a little time that is for play and rest. I'm trying to give it a good effort. I'll respond to all convos and orders on most any other day.

Of course I appreciate your feedback and will always leave feedback for you as well. If you have any problem, contact me before leaving feedback in case we can work it out.
