When I was younger, maybe like 10 or 11 years old, I wanted to try to do henna designs. The first person I ever practiced on was my mom. I would watch YouTube videos and teach myself new techniques and how to do different types of flowers. I was always on and off with henna. Occasionally, I would buy a henna cone from the store and practice on myself, my mom or sometimes my cousins as well. I took a long break (a few years) but henna was still always one of my interests. In the beginning of my senior year of high school (2019), I talked to my ceramics teacher and I told her how I wanted to get back into henna. She motivated me to start my business. I started my business with doing henna designs on family and friends in school, as well as a few teachers at my high school. I always knew that one day I would make and sell my own henna cones. But I did not start it earlier because I was in high school and I would not be able to balance school and work. Due to COVID and school closing in March 2020, I stopped henna completely. I lost my motivation for it because I didn’t have anyone to do henna designs on. In October 2020, I decided to get back into henna, but I knew I would stop buying henna cones that had preservatives in them to make them last longer. Ever since October 2020, I have been selling henna cones that are made fresh for every order. I am thankful for each and every one of my family members, friends, teachers and customers for supporting me and my journey as a henna artist.
