About

Classically designed sterling silver and gemstone jewellery hand made with meticulous attention to detail.

I am a university professor in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and have been making jewellery for about three years in whatever spare moments I can squeeze out between researching, preparing for lectures, and marking essays and exams. Pens, pencils, paperclips, and piles and piles of paper and books on and around my desk vie for space and attention with boxes and baskets of jewellery making tools, wire, beads, and findings.

I am primarily self-taught, although I have benefited from several excellent online tutorials, many of which I purchased on Etsy, and I took a superb silver smithing course at the Kingston Lapidary and Minerals Club that introduced me to several new techniques, including handling a jeweller's saw and soldering. Otherwise, my skills are developed through the exciting process of trial and error.

I particularly enjoy designing with (and wearing jewellery made from) sterling and fine silver, gold-filled wire and findings, handmade lampwork glass beads, pearls, semi-precious stones, and vintage beads and findings. Many of my pieces feature chainmaille, textured or stamped silver, wire wrapping, and other metalwork and silversmithing techniques. My jewellery is designed to be versatile, comfortable, and elegant to complement the beauty of the woman who wears it, whether at work or at play.

I am also a proud member of the Self-Representing Artists in Jewelry Design (SRAJD #3919), an international organization committed to raising awareness of the benefits of buying handmade jewellery directly from the artists that created it. For more information about the SRAJD, please visit the organization's website at http://www.srajd.com/ .

Welcome to HEvans Gems Jewellery Designs!

All items in my shop have been crafted by hand by me at my home in the historic city of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. My jewellery is made with sterling silver, fine (99% pure) silver, and gold fill wire, beads and other findings, embellished with semi-precious gemstones, pearls, crystals, and lampwork beads handmade by artists from around the world. I take inspiration from many sources, including the materials themselves, and often design a piece to showcase the beauty of particular gems or findings. I love wearing jewellery and I strive to create jewellery that will be comfortable and easy to wear and that will be much loved by every person who wears it.

My shop policies are detailed below, but if you have any questions or concerns about my jewellery or the purchasing process, please do not hesitate to contact me by convo or by email at hevans_gems [!at] hotmail.com. I take pride in my work and aim to provide you with beautiful jewellery and a hassle-free shopping experience.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
I accept payment by Paypal, Direct Checkout (which will allow you to pay with a credit or debit card), and Etsy gift cards.

Paypal offers hassle-free transactions and a range of secure services to ease your online shopping experience. For information about Paypal and their services, please visit <www.paypal.com>. Paypal offers the option of payment by credit card, instant transfer, eCheck, or Paypal account balance. Credit card transactions are almost instantaneous, as are instant transfers if you have a Paypal account, but eChecks (i.e. payment from your bank account if you do not also have a Paypal account) may take several days until the payment has been cleared by your bank, processed by Paypal, and received by me. Shipment of your purchase will be delayed until I have received payment, so for the most expeditious processing of your order, please select payment by credit card or, if you have a Paypal-approved Paypal account, instant transfer.
Shipping
I can usually prepare and send out purchases within two days after receipt of payment. Purchases will be shipped by regular parcel mail through Canada Post and you will receive a message via an Etsy convo ("conversation") to confirm that the package is on its way to you. If you do not regularly check your Etsy convos, please ensure that your account preferences are set to forward copies of convos to your email account. (To do so, click on Account Settings and look for the Emails tab. Ensure that the box beside the "Email me when someone sends me a convo" option is marked with a check mark.)

DELIVERY TIMES: Delivery times will vary, depending on your location. Deliveries within Canada typically take about 2-9 business days; deliveries to the U.S. may arrive in as few as 4 business days, but may take up to 3 weeks; deliveries to other international locations may take 6 days or up to several weeks. These delivery standards are based on Canada Post's guidelines. For more information about delivery standards, please visit <www.canadapost.ca>.

For faster shipping and/or delivery guaranteed by a specific date, please select upgraded Xpresspost shipping at checkout.

TRACKING: Canada Post provides tracking numbers for all domestic packages, but it cannot track standard parcel mail or regular small packages that leave the country. If you are an international customer and would like to be able to track your package after it leaves Canada, please select either tracked packet or Xpresspost shipping at checkout. Please note that Canada Post's international small tracked packet service is not necessarily any faster than their standard small package international air service.

As both an Etsy seller and a frequent customer, I have had consistently very good experience with Canadian, American, and European postal systems. Admittedly, some packages have taken some time to arrive, but everything I have purchased from a fellow Etsian and everything I have sent to my valued customers has reached its destination. Please note that once the item has been shipped, the time it may take for a package to reach you is unpredictable. However, if an order seems to be taking an unduly long time to reach you, please convo me to let me know.

CUSTOMS DUTY, TAXES, AND BROKERAGE FEES: Please note that customers are responsible for any import, customs, or duty charges, as well as any brokerage or handling fees that may be applied to purchases as they enter international countries. Please familiarize yourself with your country's import laws and regulations, including any restrictions your country may place on the importation of certain goods or materials.

SHIPPING TO THE UNITED KINGDOM: Customers in the United Kingdom should particularly be aware that VAT is often applied to imported goods and the Royal Mail often charges an additional £8 handling fee to such items. These taxes and charges are entirely out of an Etsy seller's control. For more information about VAT and customs charges for items purchased online from vendors outside of the EU and shipped to the UK, please see the HM Revenue & Customs website at <http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/internet.htm> .

PACKAGING: I want to ensure that your purchase reaches you in the same condition that it is in when I send it. Accordingly, your purchase will be packed safely in a gift box, ready to be enjoyed by you or given to someone special, and the box will be shipped in a padded envelope. I often recycle padded envelopes, but if you would prefer to receive your purchase in a brand new envelope, please let me know in the "Notes to Seller" field at checkout.

If an item arrives damaged, please contact me. Please provide me with photographs of the packaging and of the damaged item, and please also retain the packaging (it may be required by the post office as part of their assessment of the case).

PACKAGING FOR MULTIPLE ITEMS: To help minimize packaging and shipping costs, multiple items purchased as part of a single order will usually be packed together in a single box. If you would prefer that each item is packed in its own individual box, please let me know in the "Notes to Seller" section at checkout.

RECEIPTS: An electronic receipt will be sent to you at the time of your purchase. Ordinarily, to help minimize shipping costs, a paper copy of the receipt will not be included with your order. If you would prefer to receive a paper copy of the receipt with your purchase, please let me know in the "Notes to Seller" field at checkout.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are not completely happy with your purchase, please convo me within 30 days to arrange for an exchange or refund. Please contact me directly before leaving neutral or negative feedback in my Etsy shop to give me an opportunity to remedy the situation.

Please note that custom designed items are not eligible for refund.

I would be happy to refund the original purchase price upon receipt of an item returned to me in its original condition, but unfortunately I cannot refund shipping costs, or any taxes, import duties, or brokerage fees that you may have paid in your country. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to claim reimbursement for taxes or customs/import duties paid on returned items through the official channels in the customer's home country. Additionally, shipping costs to return the item to me are the customer's responsibility.

If you are pleased with your purchase and with your experience with HEvans Gems Jewellery Designs, positive feedback would be very much appreciated.
Additional policies and FAQs
PHOTOGRAPHS: Most photographs of my jewellery are taken in natural light and I endeavour to show gemstone colours as accurately as possible. Please bear in mind, however, that different computer monitor settings may affect the colour of the images you see; there may be slight variances between the colours in the photographs viewed on your computer and the actual jewellery items. If you are concerned about the colours of an item, I would be happy to provide additional photos showing the item in different light or from different vantages.

I appreciate that many customers are uncomfortable purchasing items that have been photographed on the ground. Rest assured that none of my items has been photographed on the floor or ground, either indoors or out. The flat stone on which many of my items are photographed is a loose stone that has been cleaned and is stored indoors; it is brought outside only for photo sessions.

PHOTO PROPS: Please note that my necklace stands are not to scale, so pendants may appear larger than they actually are. This is especially true of the small white necklace stand with a black border at the top. This stand is only about 5" (130mm) tall. Please consult pendant measurements detailed in each item listing.

Please also note that none of the props shown in the photos is included with a purchase. This includes, but is not limited to, such things as rocks and stones, miniature bottles, necklace stands, and small dishes.

ENVIRONMENT and ALLERGIES: All of my items are made in an animal free and smoke free environment. Except where otherwise noted, metal components in my jewellery are made of sterling silver, fine silver, gold-fill or vermeil, all of which should be safe for most wearers. My supplier has confirmed that the wire I use for my sterling silver balled ear hooks is nickel free. If you have questions or concerns related to metal allergies or other sensivities, please convo me to discuss.

STORING and CARING for your HEvans Gems Jewellery: To help keep your jewellery looking its best, avoid applying hair or body spray, perfume, lotions, creams, or other products while wearing your jewellery.

Sterling silver and copper will tarnish over time, and the process may be accelerated by humidity and individual skin chemistry. To delay the development of tarnish, store your sterling silver and copper jewellery in a small re-sealable plastic bag. An anti-tarnish tab or strip (available at jewellery and craft stores) placed inside the bag may also help further delay tarnishing. Your HEvans Gems Jewellery Designs purchases will be packed in a small gift box that contains a white non-tarnishing polyester fibre insert that will help protect your jewellery both during transit and in storage.

It’s recommended that before storing your jewellery, you clean it gently with a soft cloth to remove dirt and oils from your skin. Tarnish may be removed with a soft silver jewellery polishing cloth (available at jewellery and department stores). Chemical dips and jewellery cleaning treatments are not recommended, especially for HEvans Gems Jewellery Designs pieces that may feature pearls, gemstones, or an artificial patina or antiquing.
