Look into the Amber...and you are lost..
I am Heyme, and I am addicted to Amber.
Every few months I take a trip to the Baltic seaside, where you can get raw amber, crusted over, you have no idea what you have found until you get home and start sanding.
This, for me, is the best part, see what is underneath, what colour, is it transparent, is there any primordial life captured in it?
The Baltic amber is about 40 million years old, when there is anything trapped it is preserved beautifully, I have flies, spiders, moss and grass in my pieces, this is fascinating.
What else is good about amber, is that the mass is quite low, you can make big necklaces and pendants, and they will not drag you down. Besides that amber is always warm to the touch, it seems to be made to wear.
I like the keep the amber natural, the pieces I get I clean, sand and polish, apply protective natural wax, and polish some more. For me it is all about natural amber, I love it at as it is.
Amber is not a stone or mineral, but an organic substance created by the dripping of resin from certain pine trees(conifers of the family Sciadopityaceae), which was fossilized over a period of millions of years.
Amber contains up to 8% of succinic acid. Succinic acid is also termed 'Spirit of amber', which in history was used for rheumatic aches and pains.
Succinic acid is also created as a byproduct of the fermentation of sugar, lending us the typical bitter-salty taste in beers and wines.
It is believed to slowly give off the acid by wearing the amber on the skin, and numb small pains, like teething pains of kids, and rheumatic aches.
