Mixing ink to brand paper bags for the market with the logo I carved. 2018.
Hibernating Fox Studios was created, and is owned and operated by artist Theresa Murphy, based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, in 2018. From an introverted hobby, sharing her art with others has become a working passion.
Theresa has experience in many techniques, taking workshops and classes of interest over the years. Current mediums of choice are watercolour and printmaking (linocut relief and drypoint intaglio).
Inspiration comes from the everywhere and anywhere - Newfoundland culture, the garden, talented friends, animals, music, feminism and social justice, or sometimes a single prompt word. Theresa's values of supporting local, eco-friendly, and sustainable organizations is reflected in her artwork and processes as much as possible.
Theresa is a member of Eastern Edge Gallery, St. Michael's Printshop, VANL-CARFAC, Craft Council of NL (general membership), and The St. John's Farmers' Market, where she has volunteered, worked, marketed, and/or exhibited.

Frequently asked questions
Do foxes hibernate?
Not really - just a cute reference to how foxes sleep curled up, like my red and white beagle-mix Foxy! Also my own ability to create is somewhat of a hibernation before the new artworks emerge. From the outside, the handmade art process can seem like nothing is happen behind the scenes before the final product is revealed.
Custom and personalised orders
My availability for commissions is very limited. Typically I need a minimum 1-2 months notice, in addition to my ongoing waitlist. Please reach out by email hibernatingfoxstudios@gmail.com with what you were interested in (medium, size, subject, etc.) and we can go from there!
Care instructions
I use quality materials for my paintings, printmaking, and prints to ensure their longevity, like lightfast paints and acid-free archival papers.
In order to maintain the best life of your artwork, it is recommended that artwork not be stored or displayed in conditions where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, moisture, temperature fluctuations, etc.
Wholesale availability
My artwork is original, handmade, and limited edition, and as a small business concerned with eco-impact, I do not keep large stockpiles of product (reproduction giclee prints and cards) and packaging on hand.
If you are interested in a large order or selling at your business, please reach out for availability and wholesale pricing at hibernatingfoxstudios@gmail.com .
