Making new kitty cat ear hats smile_cat coming soon...matching kitty cat stuffed animals!! heart_eyes_cat
We visited Japan in January, and Matt wore his teddy bear ear hat the whole two week trip. smiley_cat It kept him nice and warm, and he received so many compliments! The hats came in very useful in Tokyo, which had the lowest temps in years during our visit.
I am knitting wedding socks currently...but dreaming about mittens. I love trying new patterns, funky techniques, and unusual designs.

About

We are a small Hobby Farm in West Central Wisconsin!

About Us
The Hide and Hair team, Pam, Randy, and their daughter Kirsten, are a very creative bunch. A love of working with your hands was instilled in Kirsten at a very young age by both Randy and Pam. When Kirsten was ten, Pam signed them up for a local spinning class (wool, not bicycles!) and with that introduction to the fiber arts, both women started on a path that would lead here, to this Etsy shop. Both push themselves and each other to try new patterns, new techniques, and even new hobbies. Working together, they often infuse elements of Randy's leather working into their hand knit and hand sewn items.

Why Hide and Hair?
The name Hide and Hair comes from Randy's use of leather and Pam and Kirsten's use of wool - they really use the hide and the hair of critters!

What is your Process?
A family of perfectionists, Pam and Kirsten have been known to restart projects several times over to get it just right, and test products vigorously before placing them on the market. Randy researches his patterns extensively to ensure their historical accuracy, or at least to recognize the liberties he may be taking with that accuracy. Stop by and see what we have in store for you, or drop us a line if you are looking for a one of a kind custom order!

  • Pam

    Owner, Head Knitter

I love knitting with natural fibers, mostly from my sheep! I also enjoy a challenge, and like to try out new techniques, and new yarns. I am a master at knitting in public - I'm never without a project.

  • Kirsten

    Owner, Head Spinner

Spinning and Knitting refill my batteries. While I enjoy knitting small items, (and that's mostly what you'll find in our shop!) I'm most pleased when I finish a large or difficult project.

  • Randy

    Owner, Head Leather Guy

I work with leather, and have since the 1970's. I do a lot of custom work in my local community, so generally my articles aren't for sale in the shop. I do, however, assist Pam and Kirsten when they require leather work on their hand-knit items.

  • Matt

    Consultant

Matt is consulted about things ranging from color to pattern selection, and timelines of project completion. He is also the gemstone guy, who helps create the beaded jewelry for sale at local markets.

We consider ourselves well rounded crafters, and make everything from ordinary items to those items you and your pets never knew you needed! We'll try almost anything once, and sometimes more if we don't get it right the first time.

Our items come from smoke free, pet loving homes, and though we don't allow the cats/dogs/gecko access to the items we sell, they are in contact with us, and we are in turn in contact with your item. Please forgive any stray hairs that may be on or knit into your item!

In regards to our hand knit wearable items - mittens, hats, etc. - We will do our best to get you items that fit, but we do realize that sometimes even the best we can do isn't good enough. If you receive an item that is too large or too small we will most certainly work with you to ensure your pleasure in your purchase, whether that be a refund, including the cost of shipping the item back to us, or replacing the item with one that fits better.

All cat toy sales are final. However, if for some reason you are displeased with your purchase please contact us first to see if there is some way we can make it right for you.
Payment
PayPal or Direct Checkout is what we prefer, but if you are in a pinch we will accept money orders or personal checks. However, if you choose one of the last two options we will not continue processing your order until the check has been cashed, or the money order received.
Shipping
In order to save you, the customer, money on shipping, we have switched from using flat rate boxes to the calculated shipping provided by Etsy. While this lowers your cost, it has increased ours in terms on packing materials. We have therefore instituted a $1 shipping and handling fee, which, when included, still brings the cost of shipping down to about half the cost of the flat rate boxes for you.

If you purchase multiple items and the shipping ends up costing us less than you paid, we will return the overage to you.

Check the listings for a general turnaround time on our custom items.
Additional policies and FAQs
We love custom orders, if you have an idea don't hesitate to ask us.

We do some wholesale orders. Feel free to contact us!
