About

How I got here!

Somewhere back in time I must have mentioned how much I enjoyed turning wood on the lathe in high school wood shop. So my darling wife bought me a wood lathe for my birthday. There I was with a wood lathe and no idea of what to do with it. After some online (and soul) searching, I came upon the idea of pen making. So here I am, several years later, still turning pens (or as the saying goes, "Making sawdust"). And I love it!

My shop consists of a 10' x 12' storage shed with the infamous wood lathe (plus a new one I couldn't resist that was on sale), a bandsaw, scrollsaw, three drill presses, beltsander, tablesaw, various hand and power tools (along with a lot of other stuff we've accumulated over the years) . This is where I do all my pen making. The ol' shed is getting quite crowded!

I use only the best materials I can find and try to make sure that the wood I use comes from a reputable source. No healthy trees are harmed in the making of my wood pens!

I cut, drill, and prepare the blank, then turn it to shape on the lathe, finish sand, seal and finally polish it. They are then assembled using a variety of pen kits. To date my pens that have been sold online, at craftshows and farmers markets, and to friends, family, and co-workers. I've even had one order from Italy for nine pens. Of course, almost everyone I know receives a handmade, custom pen for their birthday!
