Jeweler • Designer • Artist

As a jeweler, artist, and designer, my eye is constantly drawn to color, texture, and form. I love jewelry that is playful, graphic, and refined in form. I want to be drawn to touch the piece, to see the artist’s hand in the work. These personal instincts inform all of the pieces I design.

My work and home base is Philadelphia, PA—a city that engages me in so many ways with its approachable and vibrant arts, culinary, and urban farming-growing-gardening scene. I am the daughter of a dairy farming sculptor and urban dweller at heart teacher. I am at home in the city and the country and find inspiration from both.

Like my life, my jewelry is an exploration in the interaction between contrasts—bold and subtle, textured and smooth, art and object, natural and man-made, fiber and metal. The juxtaposition of these contrasting elements creates endless opportunities for design and keeps me constantly engaged.

My intention is to make jewelry for the individual—jewelry with a graphic and playful approach that surprises and makes a statement in its aesthetic. I hope you find something that surprises and delights your eye in my work.

Welcome to my shop!

My name is Hilary Hertzler.

My work is colorful, textured, and sometimes very large. I am very attracted to contrast. I like to push the balance of what people expect in jewelry. I like making things that are a riot of color and texture and unexpected material combinations.

I believe that, at our best, our choices in art, jewelry, clothing are expressions of who we are, aspirations of who we’d like to be.

What I hope when a customer buys a piece of mine is: that it makes you feel strong and happy in your own skin. That it makes you smile and brings you a bit of joy when you wear it. That it helps you to express a part of yourself that isn’t so apparent to others or easy to express. That the rules you’ve created for yourself fall away a little when you wear it.

Creating something handmade is so personal. I like to think that I am passing along a certain energy to those who wear my jewelry. In turn, you will shape it into something for yourself, for your life. It’s a lofty goal for a small item, perhaps – but a vital one, one that affirms what makes us human: the power to recreate ourselves.

Additional policies and FAQs
14/20 gold fill is made by heat and pressure bonding a layer of 14K gold to a brass core. 14 represents the amount of karats (14K) used while 20 represents the amount of gold used or 1/20th of the total weight. Gold fill is much more durable than gold-plate, which is a very thin coat of gold on a base metal. Gold fill will wear much better over time than gold-plate and is more economical than solid gold. It also retains the great tarnish resistance qualities of gold-plate making it an all around great choice for fine jewelry.

Sterling silver develops a patina over time. Some customers like the look of the patina, but if you prefer the piece to be brighter use a 100% cotton cloth or silver polishing cloth to restore the jewelery to its original appearance. To keep your sterling silver jewelry brighter longer, do not store it in open air or in high humidity. Storing your sterling silver jewelry in a small flannel bag or lined jewelry box will help to slow down the patina process.

To keep your fiber necklaces soft and their color in good condition store them away from bright light and protected from dust. Spot clean, as needed.
