About

Proving that history is everybody's favorite subject after all

As Historyonashirt, we obviously like history (we spent our honeymoon visiting museums) and want other people to realize they probably do too. Real history is stories, not endless lists of dates and this-nation-fought-that-nation. Of course, dates and wars are part of the stories, but they get interesting only after you learn who, and why, and whatever happened after that?
We love museums, but more people see t-shirts than visit museums, and Ewan has the ability to draw - really well - so he can actually put history on a shirt!
Historyonashirt specializes, of course, in t-shirt design. Ewan works with museum gift shops and other organizations to come up with artistic designs for t-shirts that look good, teach some history, and function as a walking advertisement for the museum or organization. The gift shop doesn't have to buy the design, just the t-shirts. These designs have been selling very well, so Ewan can offer his design services for free because the designs sell the t-shirts, which then get re-ordered, which brings in money for both the gift shop and Historyonashirt.
However, with the design not costing museums anything, and especially since museums are often run by committees, sometimes at the last minute somebody decides to change the design or the color, or make a different statement, or wait for more funding to come in. Then we end up with extra t-shirts or a design we really liked that the museum didn't use, and Etsy is our way of offering those to the public outside of museums. For now we have many extras and odds and ends from museum orders, but we are expanding our offerings specifically for Etsy.

Production partners

  • A printing service

    Denver, CO

We are still trying out this printing service. Its main advantage is being close by, and we are seeing whether they can also do everything we need.

  • A printing service

    Erie, CO

This service has a sole proprietor we met at an airshow, who shares our interest in aviation history. He has allowed us to try out his screen printing equipment and advised us on getting our own, knowing we'll return when we need master work.

  • Hansen Brothers Printing

    Littleton, CO

Our art prints were printed by this family-owned local print shop we have known and worked with for decades.

We sell t-shirts and other items using designs from our regular business designing and selling history-related t-shirts to museum gift shops. But we can also do custom designs if you have an event you want to commemorate. Though the minimum order for a custom design is usually 24 shirts, we may be able to work with even smaller orders; contact us and tell us what you need!

Payment
Taxes are included in our price, handled through our regular business of Albion Design Centre, which Historyonashirt.com is one part of.
Shipping
Our goal is to ship items within hours of receiving payment, but we say 1 to 3 business days in case of sickness or other unforeseen events. We have accounts with FedEx and UPS and compare their time, cost and reliability with the US Post Office to decide which is best for the size of package and where it's going.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are not happy with your purchase, we are not happy. Please return it for a full refund of the item price (not shipping charges).
Additional policies and FAQs
We can do custom orders, but the minimum order is 24 shirts, and the screenprinters charge setup and screen fees. But then most of those costs go away for an order above 70 or so. Normally we don't charge for the design, but we keep the rights to the design. In cases of more than a couple design iterations we might charge $50/hour for the extra designing time.
Drawing the design could be as fast as a day, or during a busy time could take a couple weeks. Screenprinting usually takes 1-2 weeks after that, so if you want a custom design it would be a good idea to contact us at least a month before you need the shirts.
If you own anything like a museum gift shop, we can also sell wholesale as we do to our museum clients through Historyonashirt.com.
