About

Welcome and thanks for stopping by!

All of the pieces in my shop are original cyanotypes. Small reprints on heavy stock paper.

My work is exhibited and collected around the world. It was shown alongside the work of Georgia O'Keeffe at the Montclair (NJ) Museum and at the National Gallery of Art in Jamaica. Please see my website, hlisasolon.com for a more complete list. Also, visit me on instagram @hlisasolon

These cyanotypes are made on 100% cotton paper. The process was discovered in 1842 and prints from then are still vibrant and beautiful. To make a print, I prepare a light sensitive emulsion that I brush onto the paper in a darkened room. When the paper is dry, I place it on a board, arrange the plants on top, and cover them with a sheet of glass or plexiglas. I place this in the sun and the magic begins. After this exposure, I wash the paper in gently running water and then let it dry.
