About

Hobbymakers - A Family Affair

We've never been rich; probably never will be, but we've had an adventure! Once James and I decided several years ago to try to sell some of our crafts at craft shows, we thought we needed a name for ourselves. Our daughter came up with Hobbymakers (It's our hobby to make things.) and it has stuck with us ever since.
I've always been creative. I taught school for 31 years. You have to be creative to keep that job! Needlework skills were mostly learned from Mom. I took stained glass lessons to be able to make stained glass cabinet doors in my kitchen. I learned weaving from Mom. She passed away at 91. I'm glad I was able to learn while she was still with us. I used to say stained glass was my favorite craft, but I'm liking weaving more all the time. You can see my weaving in my miniatures dollhouse bedding section.
James grew up around hands-on people. As a teen, he worked with his uncle building houses. He had two cousins who drove modified race cars at local tracks. He worked with them on their cars. After we married, he learned woodcrafts from my father. He's sort of a perfectionist and works slowly to get it right. He can do just about anything he puts his mind to and is creative, as well.
Some of the items in my vintage handmade section are Mom's. She tried many different crafts in her 91 years, even took lessons for some of them. Some of Mom's handmades are part of my dollhouse miniatures.
