Thank you so much for taking such care with this stocking for sweet Emma Settle (still in the NICU in S. Carolina. Her mom loved it and I so appreciated your extra mile of sending an alternate color name for her mom to decide between. You were so kind and you helped a momma who is still frazzled to have a little bit of joy this Christmas season. Thank you.

About

Hobbymakers - A Family Affair

We've never been rich; probably never will be, but we've had an adventure! Once James and I decided several years ago to try to sell some of our crafts at craft shows, we thought we needed a name for ourselves. Our daughter came up with Hobbymakers (It's our hobby to make things.) and it has stuck with us ever since.
I've always been creative. I taught school for 31 years. You have to be creative to keep that job! Needlework skills were mostly learned from Mom. I took stained glass lessons to be able to make stained glass cabinet doors in my kitchen. I learned weaving from Mom. She passed away at 91. I'm glad I was able to learn while she was still with us. I used to say stained glass was my favorite craft, but I'm liking weaving more all the time. You can see my weaving in my miniatures dollhouse bedding section.
James grew up around hands-on people. As a teen, he worked with his uncle building houses. He had two cousins who drove modified race cars at local tracks. He worked with them on their cars. After we married, he learned woodcrafts from my father. He's sort of a perfectionist and works slowly to get it right. He can do just about anything he puts his mind to and is creative, as well.
Some of the items in my vintage handmade section are Mom's. She tried many different crafts in her 91 years, even took lessons for some of them. Some of Mom's handmades are part of my dollhouse miniatures.

Thank you for visiting Hobbymakers' shop. Some of our items are original in design. Read individual descriptions for details. We get pleasure out of the joy of creation and viewing the finished product. For our handcrafted items, no two items will be exactly alike, even if we try.
Most of the unique items in our shop were handcrafted by James and Jackie. James makes the wooden items and Jackie does the stained glass and needlecraft. Sometimes, we work together on a project.
Woodcraft items are mostly made of what we like to label as recycled hardwood. There is a small factory near Athens, Alabama tha makes designer entryways, doors, and windows. They have a scrap pile of various types of hardwood. They sell the pieces to us, that don't quite meet up to their standards. To make the kinds of things you see listed, James can work around the flaws and save part of a tree that was destined for the burn pile.
