Absolutely wonderfully intricate and artistic piece. Will be greatly admired and is a very welcome addition to my home. Very friendly and helpful communication throughout and these 'Birds' winged their way to the UK in first class condition. Many thanks!

Amazing! The book is sturdier than I'd imagined, and the details are incredible. Thanks so much!

This was a great first introduction to Etsy. Everyone of my questions was answered in a timely manner and the artwork arrived in perfect condition. The book looks even more interesting in person! I have hung it above my book shelf and it seems to be happy there.

Welcome to the Hokey Stokes Etsy Page!

I am a MN based scientist and artist, specializing in vintage book carvings.

Some people have concerns about re-purposing books. Rest assured, I only use books that are no longer valued for their content, and never carve rare or new books. I've deliberately put down books (that would have made lovely carvings!) if I think someone is likely to appreciate them intact. My favorite subjects are reference books that are several editions out of date, rescued from garage sales, free giveaways, and second-hand shops. Although most people aren't interested in these old books for the information they contain, carving them gives them a second chance as a piece of art.
