Coming to america with a dream....... in a nutshell

I was born in France & grew up fascinated with American western movies, I'm hugely inspired by Roy Rogers & Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez, in fact when I was 8 years old I told my Mother that when I grew up I wanted to be as dirty as Tuco......... she was mortified! As a very young man I decided to make my dream of being a musician in America come true! I worked many odd jobs and saved up every penny and after a few years I had enough to buy a plane ticket & tuition to the musicians institute... destination - Hollywood Ca! I was young, naive & didn't speak english........ I don't know if I was brave or just stupid but I was determined to make my place in the American world, I taught myself english by watching TV, only going to restaurants that had pictures next to food items & having an extremely patient english only speaking roommate... not surprisingly my music career bombed and I was forced to re-evaluate my life, I could either go home to France and become a bread-maker or work in a tire factory(neither of these made me smile) or I could stay here and pursue my childhood dream of being as dirty as Tuco! I worked at a variety of western stores, making leather belts & repairing boots which served me with more "cowboy inspiration" (I've made about 6000 belts & became sick of them) I eventually found myself working at Nudies, the king of the cowboy costumer! After trying on one of Elvis's famous jumpsuits I was hit with an epiphany..... I was going to be a bootmaker! Just as I taught myself english I taught myself to make boots, honing my skills along the way and being given priceless educational information by three of the leading U.S. bootmakers, the great Lee Miller, the great Deana McGuffin & the great Tex Robbin who all helped me to correct some of my mistakes allowing me to perfect my bootmaking skills. I genuinely love making boots and using my skills to make other unique leather items, I can't imaging doing anything else in life..... but I also love animals and am a vegetarian, so in the strange circle of life, if it wasn't for the meat-eaters of the world I wouldn't be a bootmaker/leather craftsman because you see......... leather is the by product of the meat industry.
