Note from shop owner Hello lovely customers! After much debate, I've decided to put my shop on vacation for the time being. I'm back in school for nursing, and while I'm only taking pre-requisite classes at the moment, I realized that I just don't have time to keep up with my Etsy shop, my boys, school work, and everything else in my life! I'm currently selling my items at Local Lucy's in Belleville, IL and plan to keep the store stocked up as much as I can with goodies. Any current orders will be shipped out within the next few days. I may open up shop next month for a short time, but I'll likely keep it closed until at least the end of 2018 (when I'll graduate). My nursing program is Accelerated and really intense, so I know I won't have time to devote to my shop. I wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful last few years! My shop wouldn't have been successful without you! Please feel free to reach out to me if you need anything! You will receive an automated message, but I'll try and get back to you personally within a few days. Again, thank you for your support! See you in 2019!

About

Just a small town girl...

When I was little, my mom sewed everything for me and my sister and brother. I didn't ever think about the time it took for her to make my clothes, and although I briefly attempted to learn to sew in middle school, I quickly moved on to other interests. In college my mom bought me a second hand sewing machine, but I didn't really have the time or interest to learn to sew. After getting married and having three boys, I met a really sweet Home Ec teacher when our boys played t-ball together. She needed to get rid of a hand me down sewing machine, and offered it to me. It didn't come with a cord or pedal, and it took me about 9 months to finally get around to buying one online. From the first stitch, I was hooked! I started to slowly teach myself how to sew, thanks to the internet, YouTube videos, and awesome blogging tutorials.

That was only about six months ago, and not long into my sewing journey I knew I wanted to do more with my hobby. I started slowly selling to a few friends and family members and rented some space in a local brick and mortar store (like Etsy in real life!) After some encouragment from the shop owner and another seller, I opened up my Etsy shop in October. I've only been open a few months and already have some new ideas and great fabrics to try out...if only I had the time! My three boys and husband keep me pretty busy, but I hope to find the balance soon between my daytime job, family life, and my Etsy shop.

I'm an educator by day, and I sometimes sew long into the night. Although my current job is year round, I hope to find a teaching job that will free up my summers so I can work on creating during my time off. I don't think this will ever be a career, but a girl can dream, right?

Welcome to Homespun Whit! As a mama of three boys, I was always frustrated that the market was saturated with so many cute prints and accessories for little girls, but hardly anything handmade for boys. While I do use lots of girly prints and colors, I hope to help give boy moms some great new options in handmade items. I enjoy finding new and upcycled materials and turning them into functional items for you to use. I grew up wearing clothing my mom had made herself so I guess it's in my genes. I currently make girls dresses, portable high chairs, baprons, diaper clutches, and teething necklaces, but I plan to add more soon! Take a look around my shop, and if you want something custom made, just ask! Thanks for looking!

Returns and exchanges
Due to the nature of handmade products, I recommend that my items be hand washed and hung to dry only.

While I do inspect my items before they are shipped, I will refund an item that comes to you damaged. Please contact me upon receipt of the item. I will only issue a refund within 7 days of delivery. I will not offer a refund for items that have been put through the washer or dryer as I recommend hand washing. Unfortunately, I cannot refund custom made items.
Payment
I accept Paypal and Credit Cards. I also accept Etsy gift cards! Payment must be processed before your item will ship. Please convo me before you purchase if you need your item by a certain date.
Shipping
Ready to ship items will be sent out within 1-2 business days. Other items are made to order and may take up to 2 weeks to ship. Smaller items are shipped First Class. To help reduce shipping costs, some skirts and dresses will be shipped by First Class Mail as noted in the product listing. If you would like to upgrade to Priority Mail, please select that option and add it to your cart. If you need your item shipped sooner, you can add Rush Shipping to your cart before you check out.

Local and don't want to pay shipping? Enter code PICKUPLL at checkout and I'll take your item to Local Lucy's, 18 East Main Street, Belleville, IL 62220. If you live in Mascoutah, enter code PICKUPM and convo me for pickup location in Mascoutah, IL.
Additional policies and FAQs
I am happy to make you a custom order! I can make several items in coordinating colors and patterns as a gift set (example: bib, portable high chair, and teething necklace).

Many of my fabrics are one of a kind. I may only have enough material to make one or two items, but I would be happy to find material that will coordinate.

I love to make custom dresses! If you find a particular fabric you would like me to use, please let me know!
