Heirloom trays for everyday celebrations

Honeycomb Wood Crafts had humble beginnings and has humble every-days, too. Timeless and sturdy trays are hand-crafted together in my little wood shop with carefully chosen lumber before being stained and food-ready finished. This happens as one wooden board at a time comes together into one tray, made by one person. My name is Laura, and I'm the chief designer and builder of each and every wooden tray. I really like the smell of sawdust, the slow process of wood working, and most of all, running my hand down the grain of a super smooth, newly sanded board before I start the staining process. And not to brag, but I regularly win Employee of the Month around here, so apparently me, myself, and I enjoy working hard to build this dreamy little business together.

As a home-schooling mom of 4 sweet cherubs, I don't get as much time in my shop as I'd like, but when I do, it's hard to get me out of there. Many dinners have been delayed, and many little humans have sat on stools and chatted about life's highs and lows while I finished up my work for the day. It's not too far off from how I spent my after-school time, watching my dad in his (much bigger, much more impressive) wood working shop, asking him 2,348,230 unnecessary questions about the tools he was using, and the kind of wood each piece was, and could I hammer a nail in something, anything, please?!

Out of all the things I love about the wood working process, it's just impossible to beat seeing something you made with your own hands used as a part of someone else's special celebration. From after-school snacks transformed into post-school parties, to trays piled high with Super Bowl carbs and cheese, from elegant garden weddings to many, many girls nights with classic charcuterie layouts and bottles of wine on the side, I have delighted in seeing these humble trays turn into everyday heirlooms for my customers-turned-friends.

Frequently asked questions
When will I get my tray?!

I ship daily as often as possible and have a freakishly good relationship with our family's beloved mailman, David (thank you, David!!). Sometimes, an item is still in the process of being carefully made in which case it will be shipped out 1-2 days after being ordered. Once I ship on my end, your package is in the hands of David (on behalf of USPS) and all the hardworking mail carriers across the country, so be patient (whilst still excited, of course).

What about damage from shipping?!

Each item is wrapped in bubble wrap, shipping paper, a sturdy box, a hug, and a prayer, but sometimes there are just too many bumps along the road. After shipping hundreds of items, I've only had a few show up damaged, so YAY! But, if something shows up less than perfect, then boo. Reach out, send me a picture, and I will do my best to replace your item ASAP.

Are these pretty wooden treasures food safe?!

Yes! It's not too good to be true. Even the purposefully distressed and weathered looking items are food safe according to the stain and sealer I use, unless otherwise stated in the listing.

How do I both use this tray daily, yet pass it on as a family heirloom?!

Wood butter, my friends, wood butter. Listed in the shop solo as well as an add on, the wood butter is made of all natural ingredients such as organic white beeswax, organic coconut oil, and high quality essential oils. All you need to do is gently rub some on the board every 10-15 uses using the included soft cloth, and your tray will out live you. Plus it smells good and makes your hands feel amazing!

Do you customize trays?!

If you'd like one of my children to carve your name in a tray, then yes. If you'd like it to be legible, then no. At this time, I'm not set up to offer custom yet, though I know an awesome Etsy seller who is, so please ask for that recommendation.
