In order to make the at home Mom thing work, I am driven to expand our internet vistas. To this end, I've opened a Pinterest account. On it, I will be posting things as I make them, which means that the huge variety of things that come through my desk but never make it onto Etsy due to time constraints will be available to all my beloved Etsy users. See something you like? Write me on Etsy! I will post it and it will be yours. If it is marked RTGH, it is ready to go home, to you! This means no processing wait, huzzah! You also may want to check it out just to see if there is something similar to what you see on Etsy, but that has already been made. If the initials are simply GH, this means it has Gone Home, but that doesn't mean I can't make another. Again, write me and see. It is like having your own personal market 24-7 of my creations! Please have patience as I develop it, as it is in it's baby stage at the moment. I started making jewelry 17 years ago as a way to be solvent while traveling. My partner taught me the basics of chainmaille, and, after a few industrial dumpster excavations (copper was cheap back then, and more readily available for the reaping), we would sit in a patch of lovely grass somewhere and have the best studio lighting ever to work under- the sky. Chainmaille scratched a lovely OCD itch, but after 6 or so months I began to feel the need to expand. .
To this end, I went Thailand and took a short jewelry course, attended ACC in Austin for bench jewelry construction, underwent instruction from my genius mother, who is still one of my all time favorite jewelers-in-hiding, and gained some tutelage under Mark Poulin, enamelist and all around sweetheart, whom I had the fortune to work under in Oakland. While there, Mark introduced me to the then much smaller world of Etsy. Etsy has grown exponentially since then, and is constantly challenging me to keep up with her, in the best of ways.
This is made even more interesting and complex by the fact that I am completely packaging and recycling obsessed. Almost everything I create is from secondary sources, and having it look professional takes a bit more time due to the fact that I can't just click a button and order some customized boxes or even envelopes to send things in. I make practically everything. This both limits and widens my options, in obsessing about techniques available that are most eco-friendly, I find a depth of exploration into those fields that might not happen given a broader range of choices. Jewelry making is like one vast, intricate puzzle that you never quite reach the edge of. It is this that leads me onward.
