House of Moss is a place for natural needle-felted wool home decor, gifts, and Waldorf-inspired children's items: wool acorns, felted mushrooms, embroidered star moss, wool pebbles, tiny felt terrariums and terrarium necklaces, wool nests, woodland-themed Christmas ornaments, and other natural curiosities. They are a lovely way to bring the organic beauty of the natural world to your indoor living space.

My items are needle-felted. Needle-felting is the process of sculpting puffs of wool (roving) into cohesive felted shapes using a specially notched needle to poke through the material until the fibers intertwine.

Wool is completely eco-friendly and biodegradable. I recycle/upcycle as much as I can, including using bottle caps and lids to hold my wool mushroom gardens. I use reusable kraft boxes for packing fragile items, and padded mailers made with post-consumer recycled paper, and I use fragrance-free biodegradable detergent for my wet-felting. So you can be sure that, in our quest for lovely artful homes, we are not causing our earth to suffer for it.

My customers mean the world to me, and I respond as quickly as I can to messages.

I also offer wholesale/large-order sets at discounted prices. You can find them here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/HouseOfMoss?section_id=10262926

Orders go out the door as soon as possible, sometimes even sooner than I state in my policies! By the way, please check them out at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/HouseOfMoss/policy

A customer ordered these colors of roving together and I can't stop imagining what they are planning to make with them! So bright and lively! heart_eyesheart_eyesheart_eyesheartheartpulseyellow_heartgreen_heartblue_heart
My customer Heather wrote to me, "Thank you for making these amazing felt stones. I bought a set many years ago for the preschool I direct. They are absolutely one of the children's favorite toys. Now that I have a 14-month-old, this set is for our home."
Felted wool pebbles are one of my favorite House of Moss products. They are great for home decor, essential oil diffusers, open-ended playthings for children, and even cat toys! new_mooncat2blue_heart

About

House of Moss: Handmade Woodland Decor for the Natural Home

I’m Alison Comfort, the maker behind House of Moss. My aesthetic is very much shaped by the beautiful Pacific Northwest surroundings here in the Portland (Oregon) area: Our damp climate creates a gorgeous forest environment, full of moss, trees, and mushrooms. I was exposed to Waldorf education during the year I spent as a nanny, and the Waldorf sensibilities of natural materials and simplicity have stayed with me in my work. Add to that my lifelong love of tiny things, and you get House of Moss: a miniature world of woodland-themed felted wool.

My items are needle-felted. Needle-felting is the process of sculpting puffs of wool (roving) into cohesive felted shapes using a specially notched needle to poke through the material until the fibers intertwine.

I'm very interested in creating a beautiful handmade life. Starting my own business as part of the handmade movement embodies my values as a member of a world awakening to ideas of a new way of living. I think that people are beginning to be more interested in transforming our economic culture, rather than seceding from it. For me, it's a step towards independence from working for "The Man" and it allows me to create a life based on local, sustainable, human-scale activities.

Welcome to House of Moss! House of Moss is a one-woman business located in Oregon, United States.

The items you will find here are needle-felted.

I’m very open to custom orders, and I respond as quickly as I can to messages.

I also offer wholesale/large-order sets at discounted prices. You can find them here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/HouseOfMoss?section_id=10262926

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
This shop accepts payment through Paypal and Etsy's Direct Checkout (credit cards), for the safest online transactions!

If you need to cancel your order, please let me know before it is shipped.
Shipping
Shipments go out on weekdays, within three business days of payment (unless otherwise noted- see the shop announcement for any news of delays). Custom items and made-to-order wholesale sets, please allow up to two weeks for production (this can be rushed- just let me know).

Orders within the U.S. will arrive by USPS First Class Mail (2-5 business days) or Priority Mail (1-3 business days), depending on the weight, and will include Tracking. If you would like to arrange for rush shipping, let me know before purchasing and I can adjust the shipping price.

International orders will be shipped by different carriers/services depending on the weight, urgency, trackability, etc. International customs paperwork will be marked as "merchandise," not "gift." Please contact me if you have any questions.

Orders are carefully packed in reusable boxes and sent in non-plastic mailers, so as to be kind to the earth. I use durable cardboard kraft boxes for packaging inside the padded mailers (with the exception of acorns and hearts, which will be packaged in cardstock pillow boxes that you can see in the listing photos, and wholesale orders of some items, which will be packed in paper bags); multiple orders will likely be combined into the same packaging– so if you'd like to have separate boxes for each item, such as if you are giving them as individual gifts, please let me know and I will include a box for each item.
Refunds and Exchanges
If for some reason you're unhappy with your order, let me know within one week of receiving it. Depending on the situation and the nature of the return, we'll figure out the fairest solution, but generally it would look like this: You'll ship the item back to me, and upon receiving it, I will refund the transaction minus the price of shipping.
Additional policies and FAQs
Because of the wonderful unpredictability of felting, many of the items listed are one-of-a-kind. Check out the sold items, though, and if you see something you'd like to have, I can likely re-create a similar one for you. Or if you have an idea for something else that you'd like, send me a message and we'll make it happen.

Occasionally, additional fees will apply for custom orders that are significantly more complicated than my regular items, or are a brand-new design. Color customizations do not incur additional fees.

Additionally, I welcome wholesale orders. Retail shops, please check out my informal "Wholesale/Large-Orders" section, or my official Etsy Wholesale linesheet: https://www.etsy.com/guest-pass/1ebbe7ec23cb47d5653ff39f
And feel free to reach out to me with inquiries.
