I first started creating House Portraits about 25 years ago , as I sketched a pen and ink portrait of my family home for my parents .
My House Portraits are done in a finely detailed and realistic illustrative style, hand rendered and painted in pen and ink and watercolor, using your photos as reference. Technically accurate, I try to stay true to the reference photos, while incorporating my own artistic interpretation, and your own particular vision. My House Portraits are richly detailed (one of my favorite parts of the process!) and careful attention is devoted to each picture.


THE HOW~~~ I create your artwork from photo(s) and notes/instructions that you submit to me via Etsy messaging.
Your photo doesn't have to be perfect, but should be clear and detailed . Most important is that it shows the whole house and the angle that you prefer. I can put photos together but please keep the size and perspective uniform.
Random shots of details are helpful too>>Doors, windows, flowers, landscaping, ornaments, special architectural elements, house numbers, plaques,and etc.
Extra things like cars, telephone poles, road signs, will be deleted in the finished portrait.

Other things like flowers,trees,landscaping, can be deleted, added, or enhanced.
If you would like your pet included he will be stylized and small in scale.You can send either a photo or just a description of him.

THE WHAT~~~My House Portraits are created with archival fade-proof (black) ink, using Micron fine point pens, and professional-grade artists' watercolor paints, both transparent and opaque. I have been using Canson watercolor paper, 140 LB. cold press acid free.
You will be able to view your finished House Portrait as a digital image before it is shipped. Occasionally there are minor adjustments or changes to make to the finished piece.

COMPLETION/ LEAD TIME~~~Completion time varies, from about 4 weeks to 2 months from when I receive your photos and payment.
It depends on my current number of commissions scheduled, and also the date that you want the artwork completed & delivered. Order your Christmas paintings as early as possible . It's never too soon.
You can request an approximate completion date, or a definite date if you need it for a gift.
Sometimes a client needs a House Portrait done quickly,and I will try to accomodate you when possible..
I recommend giving one of my Gift Certificates if you need a rush order. I can mail you or your recipient a Gift Certificate within 2 days.
