About

Sharing the Beauty Around Me...

I've always loved nature and photography, even before I received my first camera. My first camera was a 35mm (film) point and shoot. Then I graduated a 35mm SLR then later switched to digital SLR.

My photographs capture the world around me, especially the features of the two-acre prairie remnant in my backyard. My husband and I do prairie restoration and live with a 2 acre prairie remnant in our backyard. The prairie is always changing and provides an abundance of different subjects. As one flower sets seed another starts blooming, insects come and go, fall gives way to winter and each day presents fresh scenes and subjects. At the same time, I always push my vision to see the prairie and the life contained from a different perspective. My observations do not stop when I walk out of the prairie. I can often be seen toting my camera wherever I go, always in search of the next great photographic opportunity or subject.

When out in the field I move around the subject watching the play of light. I also experiment with different perspectives. In the field I set the f-stop and shutter speed to create the image I want and do minimal post processing... my photos are not created in Photoshop, but captured in the field. Most of my photos are of native flowers/plants and sunrises/sunset, but do include landscapes, urban scapes, abstracts and non-native flowers.

The way I take photos is behind the name of my shop. After brainstorming with my husband, I settled on Hoverfly Studio because he pointed out that when I'm shooting a photo of a plant I hover around it trying to get the perfect angle... similar to how a hoverfly hovers around a plant.

Most of my photographic skill has been self-taught and what you see in my shop is a result of my pushing how I see the world. My goal ultimate for my photography is to capture and share the beauty around me!

Care instructions

Photos are printed on the highest quality digital printing using the best materials and techniques for clarity and color as well as durability and long life. Photos displayed in direct sunlight will fade so please select where you will displayed your new artwork with care.

Color of printed photo vs color on monitor

Please note that the color on the printed photo may vary slightly from your computer screen. This is due to the fact that on the screen the photo is backlit while the printed photo is not. Also different types of monitors are calibrated differently.
