Meaningful contemporary gourd art and mirror suncatchers
Because I'm a pathological gardener, folks are always giving me seeds, starts, plants. That's how I got my first gourd seeds many years ago. I planted them so innocently. Never guessing this fruit would come to rule my life. Growing them was only the beginning. The first crop was a humdinger. I had gourds everywhere. I started reading and researching all things gourd. I suspect my inner circle grew weary of the topic.
Gourds are of the garden so I'm compelled to combine them with bottle caps and pull tabs and whatever else zings me. I spend a lot of time looking at the ground. Not wanting to miss a found treasure. Family and friends save me bottle caps and pull tabs. So does the local tavern. Sometimes I have projects that require lots of both.
Gourds have long served as reliquaries. I've always shared my life with animals. My cremation gourd urns are very important to me intellectually, emotionally, artistically. I've created urns for humans too.
Gourd-using cultures are found all over the planet, Unsung gourd artists have made the mundane fabulous. I've seen anonymous gourd art that takes my breath away and keeps me humble.
The magpie in me cannot resist sparkle. My mirror suncatchers are therapeutic and flash like paparazzi. It does a body good to sit where sunlight or moonlight or streetlight falls upon the mirrors. The reflections dance across walls and floors and bring peace of mind. My neighbor across the highway tells me flashes from mirrors we have all over Hungry Holler move across her kitchen. It makes her happy. Me too.

I love asymmetry. Asymmetry is perfect. I obsess over placing a bottle cap just so, but can't abide tedious stuff.
I'm mad for sparkle. I meticulously ponder and place every single glass piece in my suncatching art, for maximum dazzle.
Hungry Holler wood spoons are sculptural useful art. Each is hand-carved by the Zen Spoonmaster, creator genius of the Ugly Spoon. The ZSM etsy shop is here:
