About

Just keep swimming...

I started making jewellery when I was just a kid. We had just moved, and being the timid and comfort-seeking person that I am, I was traumatized and devastated. My mom had done craft shows selling jewellery of her own (shout out to anyone who remembers Friendly Plastic!) until I was about 3 years old, and she had some beads and baubles hanging around, which had been unearthed in the move. I guess she thought that I, being a creative-type might find solace in them. I started making pony bead animals for my sisters and friends originally. Then, after I had mastered that, and had become sufficiently bored, I moved onto making those animals out of seed beads, and wearing them as earrings.

After a few years, my mom suggested that I move to more 'grown-up' materials like glass beads and making things that she could wear. My work progressed into memory wire chokers and chandelier earrings. Some of that stuff still holds up today. Although chokers are seriously out right now.

I did some craft shows here and there, and sold stuff on consignment, but my business was never more than a hobby.

Fast-forward to university: when I went away to school I left all my stuff in my parent's suburban basement. And then, about part way through the semester, I discovered that Michael's was only a 6-minute train away, which was a huge luxury for a small-town girl whose closest bead store was on a native reserve and whose closest Michael's was a half-hour drive from home. I started buying supplies and hording them, because all of my tools and the bulk of my stuff was 6 hours away. Once out of residence, I retrieved my supplies and began designing in a whole new way. I had had almost a year and half of planning and dreaming under my belt after all!

Again, after doing a few shows and opening my Etsy shop, I got sick. And I just kept getting worse. After being practically bedridden and undergoing multiple surgeries over the last few years, I am on the mend (fingers crossed that it stays that way). The idea of creating new pieces and spreading joy with my work is currently my dream. I am still unable to sit to work or travel, and am limited to working a couple hours a day across multiple projects at my standing desk, but I wake up every day with new ideas and look forward to my limited work hours every day.

I hope you like my creations as much as I do. This is what makes me happy, and I want to make others happy as well. Happy shopping, and please convo me if you have questions or want to make a custom order.

I am the creative mastermind behind Hunt Jewelz handmade jewellery. I am a pretty sassy person, and that comes out in my jewellery. I find inspiration in personal interests like pop culture and period dramas. And if you can't tell, I love colour.

Returns and exchanges
Returns are on a case by case basis, so please message me if you wish to inquire. If your designs arrive damaged, please message me, so we can resolve the issue. Upon confirmation of shipping damage, they will be replaced if possible, or refunded.

Any return shipping costs for approved cases of buyer's remorse will be at the expense of the buyer.
Payment
We accept both Paypal and Etsy Payments forms of payment.
Shipping
I use Canada Post to ship orders, as it is the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective option for jewellery and small items. Hunt Jewelz is now offering $15 flat-rate shipping on all items to valid Canadian addresses! In addition, if you live within Ottawa, please message me to arrange for personal home delivery, and free shipping. It pays to shop local!

Shipping internationally can take several weeks, so please plan accordingly. In addition, cross-border fees and taxes are the responsibility of the buyer, so please research how much declared value is allowed to ship into your country tax-free, or plan accordingly for those extra fees. International packages will be shipped via the cheapest method, which in Canada is still expensive, so there will likely be no tracking number. If there is a tracking number, I will send it to you upon mailing your package.

If you would like to upgrade your shipping, please message me before making your purchase, and I will provide you with options and estimates.
Additional policies and FAQs
I am unable in many cases to make duplicates, matching pieces, or modifications. However, if you see a piece that you like the look of, or have an specific idea of what you want, feel free to contact me about making a custom order.

I also make customize-able photo pendants! Right now, I have supplies to make 18x25mm pendants (available in brass, silver and black), 20x20mm pendants (available in brass and silver) and 30x40mm pendants (available in brass, silver, black and copper). If you have an idea of what you would like, or a family photo you would like made into a pendant, please message me for a quote!

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

For care of Hunt Jewelz pieces, please do not hang them from a nail or hook. This could cause the wire to warp or stretch over time, damaging your piece. It is also best not to keep pieces in spaces where they will receive direct sunlight for long periods of time. Direct sunlight will cause just about anything to lose its colour over time. For best results, keep your pieces in their provided organza bags or lying flat in a jewellery box. If you need to hang your jewellery, put it in its organza bag, then simply hang the bag.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All pieces will come packaged in an organza bag. I do this for three main reasons.

1. It looks nice enough to be used as gift wrapping.

2. They are great for storage on their own or in jewellery boxes, and will ensure your jewellery does not get tangled with other pieces.

3. It is significantly cheaper to ship pieces to you, than if I were to try to mail them in a jewellery box.

I do offer a packaging upgrade, in the form of vegan and cruelty-free leatherette pouches. These are available from my shop menu, under Special Packaging for a fee.

If you would like to purchase a box for your piece instead of having an organza bag provided, please convo me to arrange a listing to add the cost of the box and increased shipping to your order.
