About

Creating rich and detailed map prints of the cities you love.

The map prints created by iLikeMaps are designed to be presented as work of art, rather than an orientation tool. Map lovers frame the prints and display them in prominent places in their homes. Place, colors, sizes: every map is entirely customizable.

iLikeMaps is the project of Andrée-Anne and Olivier, a couple of Montréal crazy about maps and design.

Map prints are stylish and versatile decor item: we’ve made maps for nurseries and executive offices! They are also a great gift for family and friends that live in another state or oversea.

The story starts a decade ago, when then-teenager Olivier from Montréal was spending a disproportionate amount of time starring at maps. Waiting for the bus was no problem, because the city transit map was full of interesting discoveries. Geography and history classes were cool because of the giant maps hung all over the room. When travelling with the family, Rand McNally and Michelin road maps were part of the trip itself.

The interest grew only stronger in 2005 when Google released Google Maps, with satellite imagery and countless layers of data. Olivier could spend evenings exploring the maps of the places he loved.

A little later, he met Andrée-Anne, his alter-map-ego. At first surprised with his uncommon taste, Andrée-Anne quickly embraced Olivier’s passion. The formidable cartography duo was born.

Things accelerated in 2012. While spending a gap year in Leeds, UK, Olivier discovered the wealth of data available freely from the open project OpenStreetMaps. With his coding and graphic design skills, Olivier came to realise that he could create map prints himself!

After a few months of experimentation, the finish product was so great that they could sell it. At this point, Andrée-Anne took over the packaging, branding and overall marketing initiative of the project.

By August 2012, maps were available on Etsy. Map-enthusiasts came early and often, prompting Olivier and Andrée-Anne to carry on improving the products and explore new avenues.

Shipping
We ship our parcel from Montreal, Canada. North American map enthusiasts can expect pretty fast shipping while overseas map afficianados may wait a little more.

How long it takes to make the prints?
------------------------
If the product is already available in the shop, we strive to print it in 2 business days after payment goes through. Since we’re a small operation, it may happen that we lack some printing/shipping material. We’ll get in touch with you if it delays your order substantially.

I need the print before a specific date. Is this doable?
------------------------
Most of the time, yes! Get in touch with us as soon as possible and tell us your needs. We can expedite the process, upgrade the shipping (at a fee), send digital files, etc.

Print packaging
------------------------
To give the maximum protection to your print, we use two packaging techniques.

Small prints: foam board, plastic bag and envelope.
For letter-sized print (8.5x11 inch) and lower, we ship them in a clear plastic bag reinforced with a foam core backing board. We then place it in a 9x12 envelope.

Larger prints: tubes
Prints larger than letter are carefully rolled, protected in a long clear plastic bag and then put into a craft tube. Paper stuffing is added at both ends to prevent corner bending.

Shipping method and delays
------------------------
Small prints: Canada Post regular letter mail
Small prints are sent with the same service as letter mail (postcard, invoices, etc.). This method is fast most of the time and doesn’t come with tracking. USA and Canada can expect 4 to 10 business days delivery and other countries from 6 to 20 business days.

Prints up to 20x28: Canada Post Small Packet – Air
Prints larger than letter and up to 20x28 inches are sent via Small Packet – Air service. This method doesn’t come with tracking. USA and Canada can expect 4 to 10 business days delivery and other countries from 6 to 20 business days.

Prints larger than 20x28: case by case basis
For larger print, the shipping method will depend on the print size and destination country.

Upgrade to express/tracked
------------------------
At any time prior to the shipment, you can ask us about an upgrade to a faster / tracked shipping option. We’ll give you the price of the upgrade and arrange a transaction. The feature of the upgrade depends on the countries and the print size.

My print didn’t arrive. What should I do?
------------------------
Get in touch with us. We want your full satisfaction and we’ll make sure you’ll receive the print in good condition.

We’ll send you another print if you haven’t received yours after 20 business days (Canada and USA) and 35 business days (International) – at zero cost for you.

I received the print in bad shape. What should I do?
------------------------
We make our best to protect the prints, but sometime shipping can damage them. In that case, send us a message with a photo of the damaged print and we’ll send you a brand new one – at zero cost for you.

The print is fine but I don’t like it. What should I do?
------------------------
Contact us and we’ll find a solution together. We’ll exchange products, issue refunds, etc. We’ll make sure you’ll come out happy of the transaction.
Refunds and Exchanges
Your satisfaction is our #1 priority. It means we'll make sure that you receive a map you love in good condition or we'll refund you.
