How in the world did you think of that?
It was the summer of 2007. On an 8-hour train ride from Germany to Rome, in a sweltering and dusty dining car, with a cardboard carton of white wine and a sketchbook, I came up with the original design for my recycled record bookends.
I was in college, broke, and had recently heard of a cool new website called Etsy where you could sell handmade items. I started turning This into That... taking pre-existing items and materials and transforming them into something entirely new in order to scratch some of the creative itch and bring in a little beer money.
Fast forward a few years, and here I am with a whole line of products (re)made from other items. I still love to make things out of old records, especially since a friend opened a record store. He saves all of the scratched, warped, or otherwise damaged records that come in, and I give these records that would have been thrown away a brand new life.
My other day job is running a farm of around 30 black angus cows & calves, some chickens, a couple cats, a rescue Great Dane, a big garden, hayfields, and pastures.
Owner, Maker, Designer
Growing up, I wanted to be either an artist or a rock star. IKC Design was born as a collection of my functional art... my cows will tell you I'm a rock star.
