About

iKNITiatives: Origin & Vision

iKNITiatives originated back in '09 but had existed in my mind many years prior to that. I started crocheting back in '99/'00 and didn't learn to knit until shortly after my husband and I moved to Connecticut which was in '03. I officially began knitting in '05 as a means to cope with having the closest family members (my in-laws) 3 hours away which doesn't sound like much of a time distance but it equated to only being able to see them roughly every other month dependent upon everyone's schedule. Meanwhile my family lived 8 hours away. I've always had an entrepruenurial spirit and in the beginning, I started out offering small hand-knit items, blankets, and patterns. I made iKNITiatives an official business through the state of PA right before my son was born in '10. My shop has also grown into offering hand-dyed and hand-painted yarns and fibers since 2013. I've always loved color; so much so that in '08 I went through night schooling to become a cosmetologist and have been licensed since '10. It's kind of ironic because I'm so drawn to neutrals in my everyday life (wardrobe and décor) but I love to create bright and unique color combinations in my yarns & fibers as most of my colorways are non-repeatable and OOAK. My ultimate vision for iKNITiatives is to continue to introduce a sense of "color riskiness" (if you will) to my customer's hand-knit/ hand-crocheted/hand-woven/ hand-spun creations. I want them to go outside of their comfort zone and be inspired by my unique color creations.

NEW: As of late, I've really been trying to grow the handmade side of my business under a new brand offering called "Flannel+Fleece Handmade". Under this new brand, I will be offering handmade wears and home goods for sale such as project tote bags, throw blankets, fold-over clutche, soy candles, and all natural skin care products.

iKNITiatives was born in November 2009 out of my love for knitting & crocheting. In March 2013, I purchased a spinning wheel and my spinning obsession led me to begin hand-dyeing my own OOAK yarns and fibers. New for 2016: Flannel+Fleece Handmade

******Please read and understand the following:******

******Because my fibers are small batch OOAK artisanal fibers, as a result, please note that the rovings/yarns/skeins/cakes will not be 100% the same. It is recommended that you alternate knitting with the next skein so that you achieve an overall blended effect.

******Regarding my ombre gradient yarns, please note they have more pronounced vs. gradual color shifts. I use one color for the dye and use the dye at different depths of shade/ strengths to create a noticeable difference between the shades. If you would like a more gradual shift in shades, please specify that during checkout. Also, to lend to a more gradual color shift, instead of leaving the white color untouched, I can dye it a very pale shade of the dye being uses.

******Please note that I use professional dyes in the dyeing of my yarns and fibers and after the first washing, some residual dye may come out in the water. This is normal and it is recommended that these items be washed separate from your other items.

******My yarn that I sell as hand-dyed is purchased wholesale. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that my skeins will be knot-free. I try my absolute best to inspect the skeins as thoroughly as possible prior to dyeing them, however, it can be difficult to spot a knot or knots. I can guarantee that yarns that I spin and then hand-dye will be knot-free as I can control that process from start to finish. With that said, should you be unfortunate enough to have purchased a hand-dyed skein of yarn with a knot in it and are upset by it, please contact me privately so that we can discuss the refund policy and resolve the issue as your satisfaction is my goal. The customer is responsible for any shipping charges for yarn being returned and refunded.

******Items for sale are produced in a smoke free and pet free location.

******Please allow up to 2 weeks for custom dyed yarn. Due to the time and materials used, custom orders are not returnable which is why I will work with you to ensure you are satisfied with your order.*

Returns and exchanges
*Due to the time and materials used, custom dye orders and made to order yarns and items are not returnable. I will do my best to replicate a custom request, but I reserve the right to decline a custom request if I don't think it is a possible color that I can achieve to your satisfaction. In that case, any monies would be refunded to you at that time. I will work with you to ensure you are satisfied with your order.

*Only yarns that are in original skein/cake, fibers, or items are accepted as returns BUT they must be sent back in the same condition as they were initially received or they will not be acceptable as a return. Shop owner has the sole discretion when accepting or declining a returned yarn/fiber/item based on its returned condition. **Please note that the customer is responsible for any shipping charges for yarn being returned and refunded.

*Patterns are not refundable but patterns are fully supported.

* As previously mentioned in my Welcome Message, the yarn that I sell as hand-dyed is initially purchased as bare yarn through a wholesaler and/or yarn shop. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that my hand-dyed skeins will be knot-free. I try my absolute best to inspect the 400 yd.+ skeins as thoroughly as possible prior to dyeing them, however, it can be difficult to spot a knot or knots. With that said, depending on how the yarn was dyed, the skein may or may not be re-skeined. I reserve the right to choose based on my discretion. I can guarantee that yarns that I spin will be knot-free as I can control that process from start to finish. With that said, should you be unfortunate enough to have purchased a hand-dyed skein of yarn with a knot in it and it bothers you, please contact me privately so that we can discuss the refund policy and resolve the issue as your ultimate satisfaction is my goal. **Please note that the customer is responsible for any shipping charges for yarn being returned and refunded.
