I first learned how to crochet from a blind woman.
No joke.
Somewhere around the age of 7 or 8, I attended a girls group of which I honestly remember very little, except for one particular day when two of the moms (one of whom was legally blind!?!) painstakingly took the time to teach 20+ rambunctious girls how to do a chain stitch.
Fast forward to 23 year old me, fresh out of college and new to the whole "Homemaker" and "Motherhood" thing...Staying home round the clock with a fussy baby is no joke. I needed a creative outlet.
So one night, by the light of my laptop, and with the aid of Google and YouTube, I re-taught myself to crochet. What has passed since has included a honing of my skills, expanding to knitting, and a deeper discovery of a medium that I can use to fashion tangible, even wearable, creations of art, style, and comfort.
I like the idea of working with my hands to make a hat that will welcome your sweet newborn to the world or a blanket that will provide comfort and warmth on bitter nights.
I love that I can build my business while raising the next generation of dreamers and makers.
Ingleside Dreams is named after two homes of my all-time favorite literary heroine, Anne of Green Gables. The heart of my inspiration comes from Anne herself--her imaginative worlds of fancy, her love of beauty, and her House of Dreams. Each item that I list is a part of my own dream to create beautiful things that can be a part of your home and life.
It's funny that this all began with the lesson I learned from that blind woman and that all these years it's stuck with me. But it's a lesson that has less to do with crocheting and more to do with living life fully, seeing beauty in ways most don't think to see it, and sharing in the gift of creativity, no matter who you are.
