For the longest time all I had on my “About” page was that "I work alone and the dog keeps me company". But it’s time to tell you a bit more about what I do.
I am self-taught and have been weaving for several years. I weave approximately 8-10 hours a day 260 days a year. Most of what I do is either tablet weaving or inkle weaving. Both methods have been around for centuries in varying forms and are often the subject of hot debate in such circles. Can you imagine people sitting around discussing archaic forms of weaving? For example modern inkle looms with string heddles produce woven bands that are similar to bands produced on tape looms or small rigid heddle paddle looms. I have woven on several different types of these looms with similar results. For convenience sake I weave my long narrow trim "inkle bands" on a Schacht inkle loom.
I am also a tablet weaver aka card weaving it's by far my favorite method. For this style of weaving all that is required is a pile of string and a stack of cards and a ton of patience. To create each piece the pattern is drafted on grid paper, threads are measured, counted and cut, each hole (usually 4 of them) in each card is then threaded individually either front to back or back to front commonly known a Z or S threading. A simple chevron pattern can be created with 8 cards requiring 32 threads. The entire bundle is then tied off and placed on the frame only then can the weaving begin. One piece of trim can take anywhere from 4 hours to a couple of days to complete depending upon the complexity of the pattern. The vast majority of my weaving is created with history re-enactors and period costume designers in mind. Hand woven trim takes the look of your garb to the next level ❤
Woven trim has other applications as well such as hat bands, belts, upholstery trim, bracelets, hand-fasting cords, dog collar’s and leashes, camera straps, purse straps and guitar straps.
All of my woven goods are made with natural fibers, wool, silk or linen. If you need additional pieces, a longer length or different color combinations please contact me so I can create something perfect for you.
