Beautifully made, excellent quality. Packaged so well that the card itself looks better than if you had bought one off the shelf somewhere. My special greeting cards will no longer be bought at the grocery store!

About

Making the world more human, one card at a time.

We believe that handwritten communication is one of the most authentic interactions you can share with someone. In this very digital world, printed pieces and handwritten communication have become even more cherished and important. There are few things in life that can universally elicit a smile and a feeling of being loved. Receiving a handwritten note in the mail is one of them.

Each INK MEETS PAPER™ card supports this belief in the handwritten and the handcrafted. The 100% cotton paper is thick, and the ink is mixed by hand. Each piece is printed one color at a time on an antique printing press-- all from our studio in Charleston, South Carolina.

---

We're Daniel and Allison Nadeau, the co-owners of INK MEETS PAPER. Our love for the craft of letterpress printing came in 2008 with a class at a local art gallery/studio in Charleston. After spending so much time behind the screen, we realized how refreshing is was to be so hands-on and involved in the physical process of creating a printed piece. That same year, we purchased our first (and currently only) press: a 1,000+ pound Chandler & Price (circa 1923!).

The idea of connecting people with handwritten correspondence really resonated with both of us, and we saw greeting cards as an accessible way of encouraging people to text less and write more. With that passion for the handcrafted and the handwritten, we launched the INK MEETS PAPER™ line in 2010.

Our creative process starts with sketches and brainstorming sessions for card designs and themes. From there, we narrow down a direction and refine. Lots of inspiration for our cards comes from relationships (often our own), and the sweet or quirky phrases that come from those. The sentiments for INK MEETS PAPER™ cards are honest and heartfelt; for example, “I Love You Even More Today Than Yesterday” or “Let’s Grow Old Together and Still Hold Hands”. They focus on the importance of sending handwritten love, from birthday cards and happy new home cards to friendship cards and love + anniversary cards. Card designs are hand drawn and hand lettered, and then scanned and vectorized to be made into photopolymer plates for printing.

We cut down big stacks of 100% cotton paper on a vintage Chandler & Price Craftsman paper cutter. Ink is mixed by hand to the Pantone guide, and each card we print is handfed, one color at a time, through our 1920s Chandler & Price printing press in our sunny South Carolina studio.

Due to the nature of letterpress printing, variations in impression and color may be noted. This is the part of printing by hand on antique equipment that we love, as it really does ensure you get a one-of-a-kind piece. We do our best to accurately photograph and represent the print you will receive.
