Earth-Friendly, Hand-made, Organic Clothing
Intertwined Designs strives to produce high quality, durable clothing for men and women that is handcrafted in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner. We choose hemp for our designs because it is strong, requires minimal chemical inputs, and has a higher yield per acre than other fibers. Hemp’s ability to breathe, also makes it an ideal fiber for active clothing. All garments are pre-washed to insure quality apparel that looks, and feels, great. We want you to know that we stand behind the product you hold in your hands.
What makes Intertwined Designs different from other clothing companies is that each, and every item is handmade by Betsy Cassell-Thomas. She does it all, from the raw fabric, to the final product! She is not only the owner of the business, but she personally makes every single garment.
The process starts with raw fabric that is delivered to the home-based studio in large rolls. Betsy must unroll, iron, and cut the fabric before it can be used. She then dyes it in her home washing machine, using low impact Procion Dyes. The dyed fabric is washed, and dried. Betsy then chooses just the right fabric for her unique designs. She then cuts it into sewing patterns, and hand stitches it into clothing.
Intertwined Designs, has continued to operate in the same small, home-based, manner that it began with 15 years ago. Promoting quality, and sustainability over profits.
Intertwined Designs was started by Betsy Cassell, in February of 2001, In a small cabin outside of Bellingham, WA. Since then, Betsy has moved her studio from one cabin to the next, always finding ways to make her fabric, and machines, fit in small funky spaces.
In 2012, Betsy married Pitkin Thomas, Graphic Designer for Intertwined Designs, and their lives truly became 'intertwined'.
Today, Betsy and Pitkin reside in Mazama, Wa. and continue to produce high quality, handmade clothing from their home based studio.
Betsy Cassell-Thomas, and Pitkin, also enjoy skiing, and climbing in the scenic Methow Valley. Where they continue their dedication to handmade, earth friendly clothing -and healthy living. They thank you for supporting their small business.

HI, I'm Betsy, I'm a one women business. I started Intertwined Designs 13 years ago at a young age of 22. When I'm not sewing, you can find me enjoying life in the mountains by where I live.
All of the clothing comes from my home, made by my two hands. I usually have many of the items in stock, but often, I have to make your clothing on a per order basis.
*If you are ordering pants, your height can help me out to create the perfect length you need*
Orders usually take 1-2 weeks, I will contact you if it is going to take longer.
More styles can be viewed at my website: www.intertwineddesigns.com

Wear and Care:
~Hemp fabric has the nature of denim, it tightens as you wash, loosens as you wear. I do recommend machine wash cold and tumble dry low for all my materials with hemp in them, except for the Hemp/Silk, I recommend hand wash, and air dry.
~Tencel/Hemp blends can be put in the washer on cold to allow for no shrinkage, and either air dry or tumble dry low in the dryer.
~For the Soy/organic cotton fabric, I suggest machine wash cold/hand wash, and to air dry the clothing. The dryer will eventually pill up the soy fabric.
~Hemp wears 2-3x longer than any fiber, softens as you wear, and is more breathable than cotton.
~Hemp fiber has a porous nature allowing it to breath. Therefore it keeps you cool in the summer, and in the winter it traps air into the fiber keeping you warm.
~Hemp is known as the strongest fiber; over twice as strong as cotton.
~Hemp seeds are an excellent nutritional source.
~Hemp can be a natural resource for building materials, papermaking, and biodegradable plastics.
~Using the same amount of land, hemp produces 250% more fiber than cotton and 600% more fiber than flax.
~Hemp grows exceedingly well without pesticides or chemicals, actually enriching the soil and helping it to retain moisture.
~Soy was cultivated in China before 3000 B.C.E. and was classified as one of the five sacred crops.
~Soy fabric is an environmentally friendly fiber made from tofu manufacturing waste. Soy protein is liquefied and then extruded into long, continuous fibers that are then cut and processed like any other spinning fiber. It’s incredibly soft and feels similar to cashmere.
~Soy fabric is absorbent, warm, resistant to bacteria and UV rays and when discarded is biodegradable, unlike many fabrics.
~Tencel, made from wood pulp cellulose, offers a unique combination of the most desirable properties of man made and natural fibers: soft as silk, strong as polyester, cool as linen, warm as wool and as absorbent as cotton. Quite simply a “break-through” fiber.
