A Cold Technique Blended With Artistic Flair

Igor’s Story:

I have always admired the simple ornamental touches that greatly enhance an object, be it a Greek Key design bordering an otherwise plain rug or a bit of embroidery on the corner of a handkerchief. Coming from a family of artists who specialize in iconography, frescoes, and drawing, I was the only one who couldn’t find a niche in art.

My wife Jasmine had a shop here on Etsy for four years selling her crystal and beaded jewelry. When she wanted to take her craft in another direction and we were looking at tools, the jeweler’s saw caught my eye. As soon as I saw the decorative pieces this tool is capable of creating with metal, I knew I had to try it. Once I did, I was hooked. There’s personal satisfaction to the process of taking a delicate saw blade nearly as wide as a sewing needle and almost paper thin and cutting through sheet metal to create anything from a simple shape to a complex ornamental piece.

Though we have different styles of making jewelry, Jasmine and I decided to work together. She closed her shop so we could start out fresh as a new team. It’s an ongoing journey as we continue to create new items and combine techniques. So please visit us again sometime to see what’s new!

Jasmine’s Story:

My interest in making jewelry started when I couldn’t find a particular style of bracelet I wanted to wear, so I decided to try making it myself. I came home with about three times the materials I actually needed, but in the end made my very first piece of jewelry.

It was an occasional hobby until one day Igor’s mother pointed out the bracelet I was wearing to a friend, telling him I made it myself. This friend then decided I was going to make bracelets for six of his nieces for Christmas based on his description of their appearance. He was also going to pick and pay for all the materials to make them. I didn’t have a clue how I was supposed to design bracelets for others when I’d made them only for my personal collection. At the same time it looked to be an interesting challenge and I didn’t want to disappoint. It took time and a lot of figuring out how to put his chosen beads together to resemble something pleasant to look at, but I managed to do it.

Although seeing the photo of those bracelets today brings on a reflexive facepalm, it got me started on the path that led me to later opening an Etsy shop. Over the next few years, I made and sold mostly necklaces and earrings rather than bracelets. Eventually I wanted to explore other techniques, particularly metalwork. At this time Igor became interested in the jeweler’s saw and I started to solder sterling silver pieces to make jewelry. We began spending our days making whatever came to mind and learning a lot of new things, such as how not to saw through one’s finger.

We decided to open this new shop together, offering sterling silver jewelry that’s hand cut and polished right here in our little studio. We hope you stop by again to see what we’re up to!

**Caring For Your Jewelry**

It’s in sterling silver’s nature to tarnish over time. It can also happen from humidity and exposure to certain chemicals. For example, swimming in chlorinated water while wearing a sterling silver piece will cause the metal to darken.

However, things can be done to greatly hinder the process. Keep your jewelry stored in a dry place and not in open air. Storing it in a sealable plastic bag works, too. Wearing it frequently also helps to keep tarnish at bay.

If your silver tarnishes, you can restore its luster using a jewelry polishing cloth or silver jewelry cleaner.
