Announcement    Welcome to Tsuchikara (土から). Tsuchi- kara means "from the Earth" in Japanese.

All items are handmade by myself and one of a kind.

In my own work, I would like to make functional things, things that people will really use and hold in their hands. I aim to create living works of art that have "soul" in a way that forms a heart-to-heart link between the maker and the user.

I don't want to end my role by just making pots, but I would love to deliver special experience with time and space to come along. Hope my pots would always smile at your table.

Thank you so much for visiting today.

Beautiful earth-tone mini ceramic plates! Excellent quality. I love to use these as condiment plates and saucers.

These are so beautiful!! I've been an admirer of Mitsuko's work since I bought two of her mugs for my partner from Morning Tide Shop. Her pieces are so elegant and strong with these magical, almost antique creamy glazes and beautiful dark raw earthenware edges. Thank you for the note and beautiful gift!

I have been using this Chawan everyday since it has arrived. Mitsuko makes amazing and heart wormth potteries. Whenever I hold this Chawan it feels so comfortable and gives me a story of the day. Thank you so much for your beautiful Chawan, fast shipping, little gift and a very nice message card.

These Katakuchi are so beautiful and well made. When I hold these Katakuchi and poured matcha to Chawan, I felt something very warmth and delighted feeling from these Katakuchi. It pours Matcha very nicely to Chawan. Mitsuko’s beautiful work brings my house so lively and make us a new story every time I use her potteries. Prompt shipping and nice care too.
      Thank you so much!!

Goodness ... I have been building a little collection for a short time now of her beautiful kitchen wares. My life is simple, I don't buy things to fill space. I want my life and all the items in it to be a story, to have a person behind them that I can celebrate and now, with these plate/bowls! So solid, so beautiful, such an honor to have in my home. And she often adds a little gift, which I generally forget is coming until I open up and find something extra .. my dear, you are a blessing to this life. Thank you.

I saw your work at Bartavelle and was intrigued, I live now in rural Sonoma county and couldn't be happier to have your influence on my every day. Initially with my coffee experience, and now my dinner.

Thank you - so very much

I love as well waiting to see what else you'll launch - you're perfect.

Mitsuko created these wonderful little dishes based on my vague requests, and I love them! Everything about this process was easy and pleasant. Would definitely order again.

This is my first purchase from this seller, Mitsuko. The beautiful bowl was packed with care and she even included a little extra gift of a small bowl and a lovely note. This sophisticated serving bowl will bring a lot of joy into my home. Looking forward to future plates or bowls from this seller. Thank you so much!

    My connection to clay

My connection to clay is somewhat related to my connection to coffee. Spending time at the café has been important for me ever since I was young. My time at the café is spent not only to enjoy a good cup of coffee, but also to take in the whole experience around it.
Café Ibrik at Okayama Orient Museum that I frequented during my high school days was my favorite place. I saw how Arabic Coffee was prepared and I enjoyed it in a handmade cup in the perfect setting. I also remember my first cup of Blue Mountain coffee at the café where the customers could choose their cups to use for their coffee. Around that time I started to look for the perfect relationship between the coffee and the cup.

In 1994 I started to create cups from clay. First it was for coffee, then for tea. Making Chawan, a teabowl for Japanese Way of Tea became a big challenge for me. In order to create a good one, I must study Japanese Way of Tea, Japanese Tea Ceremony. It was a must to become a user to understand and to make Chawan. It is not something that you can learn from reading a book about it, or looking at the objects or the photos. Not only I enjoyed Japanese tea practice, but I also fell in love with all aspects of Japanese tea. I must say that studying tea truly influenced my way of making clay art.

Lastly, I aim to create living works of art that have “soul” in a way that forms a heart-to-heart link between the maker and the user. I believe that even one small object that I create could deliver my message.
